JOB SUMMARY:

The Marion VA Medical Center is currently seeking a full-time board certified/board eligible physician to join the Primary Care Service as the Section Chief, Compensation and Pension. This position is located in Marion, Illinois and is responsible for providing program oversight and supervision of the Compensation and Pension staff.

Incumbent of this position will serve as the Compensation and Pension Section Chief for the Marion, IL VA Medical Center and report directly to the Chief, Primary Care. Duties include:

  • Supervision of General Medical Compensation and Pension Program staff to include: evaluations, disciplinary actions, review of workload, etc.
  • Ensure Compensation and Pension examinations are conducted consistently within the required time frames.
  • Provide administrative, programmatic and clinical oversight of the General Medical Compensation and Pension Program.
  • Develop and implement appropriate policies, procedures, plans and professional standards that guide and support the Compensation and Pension Program.
  • Develop program review and evaluation to ensure that the access, quality of care, customer service/patient satisfaction and utilization management/efficiency dimension of care are continuously evaluated and improved.
  • Comply with all functions and standards of accreditation entities such as The Joint Commission.
  • Collaborate with specialty departments who may provide services as part of the Compensation and Pension Program.
  • Provide medical opinions relating to the service connected benefits, receive cases on appeal and respond in a timely manner.

WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time that includes a 40 hour work week, typically 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, but hours and days could vary, including the potential for extended hours to include either early morning or evening hours and/or Saturdays.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

This position requires a pre-employment physical. Requires lifting 15-44 pounds; pushing (approximately 2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers and both hands; walking and standing from 3-5 hours and kneeling. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far visions correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other. Must have depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Hearing aid is permitted.

In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following:

Basic Requirements:  

  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia (Please provide the state in which licensed and the license number for all current and previously held licensures)

 

Preferred Experience: A minimum of one year experience performing compensation and pension examinations or disability examinations is preferred.

Reference:   VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard.  This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
