Education - Must
have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology
accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). The specialty area
of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is
employed. The applicant must have successfully completed a professional
psychology internship training program that has been accredited by APA.
Exceptions: (1) new VHA psychology internship programs that are in the process
of applying for APA accreditation are acceptable in fulfillment of the
internship requirement, provided that such programs were sanctioned by the VHA
Central Office Program Director for Psychology and the VHA Central Office of
Academic Affiliations at the time the individual was an intern and (2) VHA
facilities who offered full one-year pre-doctoral internships prior to PL
96-151 (pre-1979) are considered to be acceptable in fulfillment of the
internship requirement. COPIES OF UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED
Licensure - Must
hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the
doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e. g.,
Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. COPIES OF LICENSES REQUIRED
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR THE GS-13 GRADE LEVEL: This is the full
performance level for staff clinical neuropsychologists. At this level clinical neuropsychologists are
licensed at the doctoral level to practice independently in the provision of psychological
services consulting with peers and supervisors as appropriate. Specialized Experience: working experience in teaching/supervision and/or administration of an
APA-approved training program which includes neuropsychology training;
independent, advanced competence in carrying out the full range of
neuropsychological evaluation, assessment, and diagnosis using accepted
procedures and test instruments; ability and experience in providing diagnostic
opinions that are considered authoritative in nature; providing expert
professional opinions and advice on the application of neuropsychological
principles to clinical services and to collaborative services; providing
consultative opinions to other health professionals on such topics as how
patients may be expected to respond to treatment, why a patient is responding
in a certain way or is uncooperative, insight into the patients psychological
and neuropsychological conditions. Must have 2 years of post-doctoral experience as a psychologist with at
least 1 year
of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12).
PREFERRED SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE - Completion of
2-year formal postdoctoral residency in Neuropsychology and experience in
teaching/supervision and/or administration of an APA-approved training program
which includes neuropsychology training.

ranked above those who do not, but no one may be rated ineligible solely for

professional psychological theories and techniques to the full range of patient

neuropsychological evaluations, assessments, and diagnoses.
5. Experience in
providing direct training and supervision to interns and/or postdoctoral
fellows in neuropsychology.
6. Knowledge of the principles and standards of APA accreditation, and ability to administer an accredited training program in neuropsychology.
