The Atlanta VAMC has 405 authorized inpatient beds (273 hospital, 120 Community Living Center and 12 PRRTP) and is a tertiary care facility classified as a Complexity Level 1A facility. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services complete with state-of-the-art technology, education and research. Comprehensive health care is provided through emergency medicine, primary care, tertiary care, and long-term care in the areas of medicine, surgery, mental health, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics, and extended care. The Atlanta VAMC is part of the VA Southeast Network (VISN 7), which includes facilities in Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina. The Atlanta VAMC Community Living Center serves metro Atlanta and includes extended care rehabilitation, psycho-geriatric care, and general long term care. The facility also serves as a prosthetics treatment center, fabricating and supplying mechanical devices such as artificial limbs for patients within the states of Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama.

The Atlanta VA Medical Center is located at 1670 Clairmont Road in Decatur, Georgia. The medical center oversees seven VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) in Smyrna (Cobb County); Lawrenceville (Gwinnett County); Oakwood (Hall County); East Point (South Fulton County); Stockbridge (Henry County); Newnan (Coweta County) and Blairsville (Union County) in addition to an outpatient clinic in Decatur and an outreach clinic in Rome, Georgia.

GRADE/SALARY DETERMINATION: The candidate tentatively selected will be reviewed by the Professional Standards Board (PSB) and must meet PSB requirements prior to appointment. This PSB will evaluate the candidate qualifications for the position and determine the grade level. The incumbent selected will be appointed at the appropriate grade level based on qualifying experience, education and other credentials related to the work of the position.


This Clinical Psychologist will serve as a professional staff member of the Geriatrics & Extended Care Service Line. The incumbent provides a full range of psychological services within the areas of assignment that include: Psycho Diagnostics, Case Management, and Psychotherapy.  Other duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

·         Administrative duties, including comprehensive documentation that details adequacy, nature, and scope of services rendered and validation of responsibility.

·         Provide psychological evaluation and behavioral treatment.

·         Administer a wide variety of group and individual tests.

·         Use a variety of intelligence and personality assessment measures.

·         Conduct interviews; use rating scales, questionnaires or other measurement devices; and observe patients to assess emotional, functional or psychological conditions.

·         Plan appropriate clinical treatment for individual patients based on data gathered during assessments.

·         Promote, supervise and provide individual and group psychotherapy.

·         Lead a group and/or conduct individual therapy sessions using a full range of therapeutic techniques and skills.

·         Use the following therapeutic or clinical modalities: Eclectic, Supportive, Behavior Modification, Biofeedback, Hypnosis, Couples, Family, Sexual Dysfunction, Evaluation and Disposition.

·         Evaluate/Adjust treatment as necessary.

·         Will be trained for and provide services for both the Community Living Center and Home Based Primary Care.
