JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission.  They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations.  The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position:
This position is located in the Heavy Mobile Maintenance Branch of the Logistics Readiness Center, Fort Belvoir, VA. The Logistics Readiness Center Belvoir mission is to maintain a highly trained workforce that is knowledgeable, adaptive, innovative, and mission focused capable of providing a consistent level of customer recognized quality service across all areas of logistical support. The Heavy Mobile Maintenance mission area covers support from Carlyle, PA to Charlottesville, VA including the Pentagon, Fort Meade, Fort Deterick, Fort A.P.Hill, and other DoD and Federal agencies in the National Capital Region (NCR).

 

This position is a Career Program (CP) 17.

Serve as an Emergency Vehicle Technician who has overall responsibility for performing the full scope of maintenance and emergency vehicles and equipment.

 

Perform preventive maintenance service of fire apparatus, vehicles, and fire equipment and non-emergency vehicles.

 

Maintain and repairs foam delivery systems, compressors, and compressed air foam systems.

 

Inspect entire fire apparatus vehicle/equipment and components for proper function, tolerances and alignment.

 

Road tests vehicle for proper alignment and repair.

 

Record and reports to supervisors and customers on deficiencies discovered and why the defect occurred.

 

Perform short endurance road tests of vehicles and equipment to determine safety and suitability prior to issuing to drivers/operators.

 

Prepare a list of all parts required for repair and make final inspection of equipment to assure proper working condition.

 

Trouble shoots in the field and shop environment.

 

Work directly with the customer on any deviations from part requirements.

 

Develop cost estimates factoring in availability of parts. Responsible for ordering all parts needed to complete the full scope of the repair.

Screen Out Element: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal Supervision. Applicants must meet the screen out elements to be considered further. To meet the screen out elements, applicants should document experience performing work such as repairing, removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning and installing a variety of parts, components, and accessories on heavy mobile equipment. Using hand tools of the trade to repair starting switches, injector pumps, sensors, brakes, and hydraulic systems, foam apparatus systems, and fire apparatus components.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities)in the following areas:

·         Knowledge of Mechanical Equipment, Theory, and Instruments.

·         Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, Etc..

·         Ability to Read and Interpret Circuit Diagrams, Schematics.

·         Ability to use and maintain tools for Mechanical Work.

Physical Effort Required: This position requires working in tiring and uncomfortable positions, standing on hard surfaces, climbing on top of equipment or crawling under equipment, bending, reaching, stretching, and crouching. Work often requires lifting and carrying items weighing up to 60 pounds.

Working Conditions: Work is performed inside where it is drafty, noisy, and fumes from vehicles are present. Work is occasionally performed outside in adverse weather. Incumbent is subject to dirt, dust, grease, burns, skin irritants, cuts, bruises, shocks, burns, and strains.

Conditions of Employment:

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
