Minimum Requirements: Undergraduate and Graduate
Major study -- safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational
health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or
was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the
following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health,
industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health,
mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and
Experience in scientific or technical
work that provided an understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the
safety and occupational health field. Creditable general experience must have
demonstrated the achievement of knowledge equivalent to the education described
Safety and Occupational Health Manager, GS-0018-09: Must have 24 months experience in drafting, planning, and
analyzing Explosive Site Plans (ESPs); Experience in implementing, governing
DODi and USAF guidance in all aspects of explosives and explosive safety;
Experience in reviewing and writing Explosive Facility License, AF Form 2047;
Experience in conducting, documenting explosives and ground safety inspections.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: The following knowledge's, skills, and abilities will be used by the selecting officials to determine the best qualified applicants from which selection will be made:
1.Knowledge in drafting, planning and analyzing Explosive Site
2.Knowledge of AFMAN91-201, AFI21-201, AFI21-200 and
3.Knowledge of explosive citing and control inventory codes.
4.Knowledge of organizational practices and activities.
5.Ability to identify, analyze and resolve issues and
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Successful completion of all requirements for a
masters or an equivalent degree, or two full academic years of graduate
education, which is safety and occupational health management or safety
engineering, industrial engineering or directly related fields such as
Industrial Hygiene, Fire Prevention Engineering or Industrial Psychology. To be creditable, applicants must submit
transcripts, diplomas or other forms of completion certificates to provide
verification of courses.
**Course work in fields closely related to those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance.**

*CREDITING EXPERIENCE: NATIONAL GUARD SERVICE MAY BE CREDITED AS FULL-TIME EXPERIENCE WHEN EVALUATED AGAINST THE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR A MILITARY TECHNICIAN POSITION. EXPERIENCE MUST BE DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE POSITION AND MUST BE DESCRIBED IN THE WORK EXPERIENCE SECTION OF THE APPLICATION AND/OR résumé. THE LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE IS DETERMINED BY THE ACTUAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES PERFORMED. BE DESCRIPTIVE, A SIMPLE LIST OF JOB TITLES AND DATES WILL NOT SUFFICE.
