Degree: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicant's graduation. Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in an institution accredited for such training. (This 1 year of supervised experience may be waived for research or administrative positions not requiring direct patient care.) For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Listings of accredited programs are published yearly in the Directory of Residency Training Programs and the Yearbook and Directory of Osteopathic Physicians.
Licensure: For positions involving patient care, candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Specialist positions require graduate training and experience related to the specialty and sub-specialty of the position to be filled. Experience may not be substituted for training essential for performing specialized duties. Applicants must have five years of residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled (Psychiatry) or an equivalent experience and training.
Some examples of this qualifying experience are:
- Experience in making decisions relative to consultation with members of medical and institutional staff.
- Experience in providing clinical oversight and is responsible for all health care delivered.
- Experience in reviewing and monitoring the delivery of psychiatry services recommending corrective action changes as appropriate.
- Experience in evaluating and making recommendations regarding utilization of psychiatrist, program implementation, resources and staff development needs.
- Experience in advises medical staff on psychiatry policies in accordance with local licensure laws, legal requirements, Health Services Department policies and programs, requirements for accreditation by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations, the American Correctional Association, and other relevant organizations.
Credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities.

Your application will be evaluated and rated under DOJ's Category Rating and Selection Procedures. Your resume and supporting documentation will be used to determine whether you meet the job qualifications listed on this announcement. If you are qualified for this job, your resume and supporting documentation will be compared to your responses provided to the online assessment questionnaire. Your application will then be placed in one of three categories: Best Qualified, Highly Qualified, or Qualified. Names of all candidates in the best qualified category will be sent to the hiring official for employment consideration. Candidates within the Best Qualified category who are eligible for veterans preference will receive selection priority over non-veteran preference eligibles.
