The Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (RRTP) at Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS) is a program within Mental Health Service that focuses on Homelessness, Substance Abuse Disorders, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) for Veterans that might need an inpatient type of environment but with an outpatient type of care provided.  The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)  within RRTP will act as a team member of the Interdisciplinary Team to provide nursing excellence in the care of Veterans. Duties include admissions, transfers, discharges, educational groups, medication management, data collection and documenting observations and changes in patient's condition and reporting any noted change in patient's condition to the Registered Nurse. The LPN will also collaborate with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes and is accountable for meeting and maintaining the qualification standards and functional statements of assigned grade.  Nursing care is provided in a primary care type of setting with the focus on recovery and seamless integration into society.


As part of the VA healthcare team, Practical Nurses complete their work with only a general review by a Registered Nurse. The Practical Nurse will demonstrate the ability to respond to the Veteran's nursing needs for nursing, medication, and equipment-assisted care and to recognize deviations from normal.  Demonstrated ability to work effectively with patients, family and other staff members and to respond appropriately to emergency situations.  Incorporates acceptable, established customer service standards into practice.  Demonstrates knowledge and skill sufficient to prepare, administer, and appropriately document actions taken specific to commonly prescribed oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and/or intravenous medications as permitted by approved local facility policies and procedures.  The incumbent selected for this position demonstrates skill in dealing with disruptive behavior and may work on any one of the four (4) Mental Health Domiciliary Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (RRTP) units delivering medications or providing general supportive care to the Residents.

  • U.S. citizenship.  
  • Graduate of a school of practical nursing approved by the appropriate State accrediting agency and one of the following: Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) formerly known as The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) OR The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Current, full, active and unrestricted registration as a Practical nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia. 
  • Must be proficient in spoken and written English
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support



Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Practical Nurse Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. The recommended salary may be at any point in the range listed for this vacancy.
