JOB SUMMARY:

The Joint Task Force National Capital Region Medical (JTF CapMed) is the future of Military Medicine- a partnership in World Class Medical Healthcare. The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE), Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Dilorenzo Clinic and the Joint Pathology Center, provide world class medical services to the nation's service members and their families.

About the Position:

The work is primarily sedentary, however, there may be some walking, standing or carrying of light items such as manuals or files. The environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of an office setting. The work involves devising new or improving solutions to complex technical problems in the functional areas of chart analysis.

You will oversee the initial creation and assembly of inpatient records to include the processing and analysis of ambulatory procedure visits (APV), ensuring that records are completed and authenticated by health care providers in accordance with Joint Commission (JC) standards, DOD Regulations and local policy. Assures timeliness in the completion of tracking and retrieval of APV records and assembly of inpatient records is in accordance with acceptable JC scoring guidelines. Coordinate the activities and services of the Chart Control section. Assists other Supervisory Medical Record Technicians and subordinate Medical Records Technicians on the preparation, maintenance, review and revision of operating procedures for items such as: internal qualify review of medical charts, posting loose elements to the charts, controlling delinquent charts and missing documents, chart tracking, etc. Establishes and maintains contact with the patient wards to obtain records and facilitate follow-up on any patients that have been discharged. Ensures that records status of completion is easily identified. Responsible for maintaining an organized filing system whereby records are easily located and retrieved upon request. Oversees request for Inpatient/APV medical records from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center-B internal customers, verifying authorization to review patient protected health information and retrieval of such records. Prepares data and routine reports on medical records completion status and associated delinquencies. Identifies and recommends solutions to remedy chart processing inefficiencies, based on review and trends attributed to delinquent and incomplete record tallies. Monitors quality assurance systems and procedures. Suggests additional reviews to clarify problems and recommends methods to enhance the effectiveness of the medical record program. Plans and assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Evaluates and rates work performance of subordinates. Prepares schedules, provides advice, counsel, and/or instructions to employees on both work and administrative matters. Interviews candidates for positions in the unit; recommends promotion, reassignment to such position. Consistently employs effective listening and resolves complaints from employees. Effects minor disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands, recommending other action in more serious cases. Identifies developmental and training needs of employees.

Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Typical examples of such work include (but are not limited to): Administer the standardized chart control program for medical records. Performs a wide range of personnel management duties (such as hiring, appraisals, training, work distribution and disciplinary actions).

These examples are typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas: Knowledge of Medical Records Processing Procedures

Skill in Supervisory/Managerial Duties

Ability to Communicate Orally and in Writing

Skill in Data Quality Assurance

Knowledge of Joint Commission Standards for Medical Records Processing

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the GS-07 grade (or equivalent).

Note - recommended certification: A Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).

Masters or equivalent degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. or JD, if related (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts). Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience.
