This position is assigned to the Department of Pediatrics Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) performing duties within the Pediatric Subspecialty Division.  Provides vital support to military Healthcare beneficiaries and to the pediatric medicine residency program at NMCSD.  The position scope includes: direct patient care; team leading; diagnostic reasoning, advanced clinical expertise and therapeutic interventions; resident education, consultation, and research.

·       Provide consultation on pediatric renal diseases via direct inpatient and outpatient care.

·       Provide immediate supervision and clinical instruction to residents, interns and students.

·       Perform specialized diagnostic and therapeutic procedures on pediatric patients with renal diseases.

·       Serves as preceptor for students, interns and residents rotating in Pediatric Nephrology.

·       Participate in departmental continuous improvement programs and processes.

·       Support and promote ongoing research and publication of finding.

·       Degree:  MD or DO from accredited school in the United States or Canada.  Is your medical degree from a foreign medical school?  If yes, then you must have a permanent ECFMG or Fifth Pathway Certificate.  Please make sure your application includes a photocopy of your ECFMG or Fifth Pathway Certificate and number including the date awarded.

 

·       Active, valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

 

·       3 years of residency training and 3 years in Pediatric Nephrology fellowship or equivalent?  Your resume must reflect you have a sufficient level of expertise in Pediatric Nephrology to perform the core privileges of this position at the GP-15 Level.   This includes, but is not limited to, the following: treating pediatric patients with normal and abnormal development and maturation of the kidney and urinary tract, the mechanisms by which the kidney can be damaged, the evaluation and treatment of renal diseases, fluid and electrolyte abnormalities, hypertension, and renal replacement therapy.

 

·       Satisfy         BUMEDs clinical privileges requirements which, in addition to the above, includes the following:

 

o   Completion of a Pediatric Nephrology residency approved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification, or board eligible in Pediatric Nephrology.

o   Current clinical competence (e.g., privileged to independently practice Pediatric Nephrology within the past 2 years, actively practiced Pediatric Nephrology within the past 2 years by having encountered a sufficient number of clinical cases to represent a broad spectrum of the privileges required).

o   No health status contraindications to granting clinical privileges.

 

Note:  Board certification is desired but not required.

REQUIREMENTS:
