Provides technical user support for all aspects of geospatial data and software. Serves as the Geospatial Training Coordinator for the Forest and provides and coordinates classroom, small group, and one-on-one training for Forest GIS and GPS users.

Has a thorough understanding of GIS data editing techniques; implements metadata and data documentation procedures; maintains hardware, peripherals, GPS units, network, and GIS operating systems. Knowledge is used to develop new insights in complex situations, apply innovative solutions to complicated problems, and design new methods.

Works with natural resource specialists, engineers, scientists, planners and subject matter experts at the District, Forest, and regional levels to coordinate and conduct GIS analyses for project and forest level support. Identifies requirements and implements advanced analytical techniques necessary to solve complex GIS issues.

Serves as the GIS technical expert for activities involving spatial data, to develop, create, and manage the GIS database and database management system while ensuring that national, regional, and forest data standards are met.

Works with local, state, and federal agencies to coordinate data capture and analysis projects and to facilitate the sharing and distribution of spatial information. Works with natural resource specialists, engineers, scientists, planners and subject matter experts at the District, Forest, and regional levels.

Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least to the GS-9 grade level; OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related; OR An appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education (beyond what is required for a master's degree, i.e., more than 36 semester hours leading to a Ph.D.).

Specialized Experience is defined as one or more of the following:

• Developing, creating, and managing the Geographic Information Systems spatial information and associated databases to support the mission and programs of the organization;

• Working with a diverse group of natural and cultural resource specialists, scientists, planners, and engineers to coordinate and conduct GIS analyses for projects;

• Identifying the requirements and implements advanced analytical techniques necessary to solve complex GIS and database issues,

• Assisting in the development of organizational standards and applications; and serves as the geospatial training coordinator for the organization.
