The individual selected for this position will serve as an IT Specialist in the Enterprise Systems Division of the Office of Information Systems Management (OISM) for the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder, CO. With oversight from the supervisor and senior IT staff, primary responsibility is to install, maintain, optimize and troubleshoot the Boulder network-based VMware ESX, Storage Area Network (SAN), Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, CITRIX XenApp and IBM EndPoint Manager (BigFix) hardware and software infrastructure to ensure high levels of availability and security.
IT Specialist responsibilities include server hardware installation and maintenance; VMware ESX 4/5 administration; Microsoft Windows Server 2008/2008 R2 administration; CITRIX XenApp 6.5; SAN management; and configuration, optimization and upgrades following industry best practices. Perform standard configuration, management and maintenance tasks for related file systems, input/output systems, networking, clustering, storage and applications. Perform and test system configuration backups and restores to ensure system recovery from error or outage. Perform and test data backups and restores, with the storage team where present, to ensure full data retrieval. Review and deploy system releases and vendor-supplied patches according to best practices. Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on all systems.
Collaborate in the identification of critical requirements and information technology management practices, challenges and solutions. With oversight from the supervisor and senior IT staff, the individual selected for this position will participate in the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance is consistent with OISM goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.

ZP -III qualifications – Applicants must have:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 (ZP-II at NIST) in VMware ESX 5 administration, Microsoft Windows Server 2008/2008 R2 administration, Active Directory, CITRIX XenApp 6.5, Microsoft SQL Server 2008/2012, SAN Management.
Or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
Or Three (3) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

We will review your resume and cover letter to determine if you meet the minimum qualification requirements for the position. If you meet the qualification requirements stated in the vacancy announcement, we will then compare your resume and supporting documentation to your responses to the job questionnaire (which will be scored) and place you in one of the three pre-defined categories. Your responses to the job questionnaire will serve as the basis for your initial rating in one of three pre-defined categories "gold," "silver," and "bronze." Within each category, those eligible through veterans preference will be listed at the top of the category. ICTAP and CTAP candidates will be eligible if it is determined that they have exceeded the minimum qualifications for the position by attaining at least a rating of 85 out of 100. The job questionnaire covers the following knowledge, skills and abilities/competencies:
• Ability to manage server hardware including staging, rack mounting, cabling power and networks, and installing and configuring VMare ESX 4/5 and Microsoft Windows Server operating systems.
• Ability to maintain Active Directory servers and apply Active Directory Group Policy to servers and desktops, and to troubleshoot and diagnose problems with Microsoft Windows server and desktop clients related to Active Directory.
•Ability to manage the VMware ESX 4/5 virtual infrastructure including the provisioning and maintenance of virtual machines, execution of VM backups and restores to ensure system recovery, and the maintenance and upgrading of VMware ESX infrastructure hardware and software.
• Ability to manage SAN and Brocade fiber switches that are used for storage by the VMware infrastructure as well as webservers, Microsoft SQL servers, or any server requiring high-speed fault tolerant storage.
• Ability to setup and perform the administration of CITRIX 6.5 infrastructure including installing and publishing applications, and managing access to applications via Active Directory groups."Your responses to the job questionnaire are subject to evaluation and verification. Work Conditions are not limited to the following: This work requires employee to be able to carry and lift IT equipment weighing up to 44 lbs, to install and remove equipment from racks, and to work on equipment located 12-72” above the floor.
