The position provides Physiatry services in support of  Naval Medical Center, San Diego (NMCSD) California and assigned to the Comprehensive Combat and Complex Casualty Care program department.

·         Provides diagnosis and treatment for patients with a history of poly-traumatic injuries

·         Provides care for patients with unilateral, bilateral and complex amputations

·         Provides care for patients with mild, moderate and severe TBI

·         Orders general laboratory and diagnostic tests and evaluate the data

·         Recommend treatment using a variety of physical medicine and rehabilitation therapies, interventions and prescriptions

·         Participates in twice weekly inpatient trauma rounds

·         Services as a multidisciplinary team member

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient education and experience to perform the duties of this position for which you are applying.  Your resume is the key means we have for evaluating your qualifications as they relate to this position.  Therefore, we encourage you to be clear and specific when describing your experience.   Credit may be given for appropriate unpaid and/or part-time work if your resume indicates the total number of hours per week.


·        Degree:  MD or DO from accredited school in the United States or Canada.  Is your medical degree from a foreign medical school?  If yes, then you must have a permanent ECFMG or Fifth Pathway Certificate.  Please make sure your application includes a photocopy of your ECFMG or Fifth Pathway Certificate and number including the date awarded.

·        Active, valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

·        5 years of residency training or equivalent experience and training in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation?  Your resume must reflect you have a sufficient level of expertise in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation to perform the core privileges of this position at the GP-15 Level.   This includes, but is not limited to, the following: Diagnosis and treatment for patients with a history of polytraumatic injuries, loss of limb or its function, EMG and/or pain management, head trauma.

·        Satisfy         BUMEDs clinical privileges requirements which, in addition to the above, includes the following:

o   Completion of an Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation residency approved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification, or board eligible in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.

o   Current clinical competence (e.g., privileged to independently practice Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation within the past 2 years, actively practiced Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation within the past 2 years by having encountered a sufficient number of clinical cases to represent a broad spectrum of the privileges required).

o   No health status contraindications to granting clinical privileges.


Note:  Board certification is desired but not required.
