NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED:  This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatibility assignment in the National Guard.  Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.

Applicants with an enlisted rank that exceeds the maximum advertised rank for the position may be considered.   Applicant must provide a statement with their resume/application which indicates their willingness to accept a reduction in military rank.   If selected, reduction in military rank is required to prevent grade inversion.   Air/Army Officers and Army Warrant Officers may be allowed to reduce their Officer/Warrant Officer rank to Enlisted only.   Military recruiters can provide Air/Army Officers and Army Warrant Officers with specifics applicable to the applicant.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP STATUS:  Employment in this position requires concurrent military assignment to a compatible military position in the New Jersey National Guard in one of the following military specialty codes:

NOTE:  INDIVIDUAL SELECTED HAS ONE YEAR TO OBTAIN THE ADVERTISED AFSC.  

 

LEVEL OF CLEARANCE/INVESTIGATION:  MUST HAVE A SECRET SECURITY CLEARANCE.

 

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS: To obtain the required AFSC, acceptance into this position requires a minimum ASVAB Score or 47 in the Mechanical and 28 in the Electrical area.  ASVAB scores will not be required to apply for the position, however applicants must obtain required ASVAB scores prior to acceptance of the position.  The applicant must verify their scores with their Military Personnel FLight/ Military Personnel Office.

The following list of duties is not conclusive but provides a brief snapshot of the duties that may be required for this position:  A copy of the complete position description is available in the Human Resource Office.

 

DUTIES: Responsible for the  accurate interpretation of numerous manufacturer drawings, specifications, operating instructions, and test procedures, to troubleshoot, calibrate, align and repair a variety of highly complex pieces of powered support equipment.  Performs inspections, preventive maintenance, servicing, repair, and adjustments on complex rotary diesel engines.  Must independently determine work sequences, and special procedures to be used to fault-isolate and repair unusual problems in various pieces of powered support equipment.  Troubleshoots, repairs, overhauls, modifies and operates aerospace ground equipment such as AC and DC power generators, various types of internal combustion engines, air compressors, blowers, hydraulic test stands, cabin leakage testers, portable diesel engine driven generators, emergency lighting units, de-icers, heaters, load banks, hydrostatic testers etc.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:  APPLICANT MUST PROVIDE A COPY OF A CURRENT VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE

 

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:Experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of mechanical maintenance work; ability to read and use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams and and schematics, and skill in the use of equipment and hand tools used in troubleshooting, testing and repairing equipment.

 

Please address the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's) in your resume:  Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements will be further evaluated on the following KSAs considered essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of this post.

 

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:  Must have 18 months of experience or training removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories. 

KNOWLEDGE of mechanical, electrical pneumatic, and hydraulic theory applying to powered support equipment and systems.

SKILL to replace, fit, install , and make adjustments..

KNOWLEDGE of the makeup and operation of the various individual system maintained and their interrelationships.

ABILITY to read and interpret parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
