Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission.  They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations.  The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

As a result of sequestration and budget shortfalls, Army is furloughing most of its employees for some amount of time during fiscal year 2013. An employee in this position MAY be subject to furlough. If applicable, specific information regarding the administrative furlough will be provided to the individual selected for this position.

This position is located: 108th Training Command (Initial Entry Training), 4th Brigade, 98th Training Division (IET), Buffalo, NY.

About the surrounding area: Buffalo is the second most populous city in the State of New York. It is located in western New York on the eastern shores of Lake Erie and at the head of the Niagara River across from Fort Erie, Ontario. The region’s largest economic sectors are financial services, technology, health care and education and these continue to grow despite the national economy.

    In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
    Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: Work that involves communicating with soldiers and their family member, utilizing knowledge of community resources and social service agencies to aid the family readiness program, utilizing knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation to properly prepare correspondence and reports, and experience operating office equipment such as a computer, printer, fax machine an telephone. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
    Selective Placement Factor: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.

    You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

    • Ability to communicate orally
    • Ability to communicate in writing
    • Knowledge of family readiness or family programs issues

    Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
