INTRODUCTION:  This position is located in the Joint Forces Headquarters – Tennessee, Logistics Directorate (J-4), Field Maintenance Shop (FMS) #7, Tullahoma, TN. The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, inspection, and/or overhaul of a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, and special purpose vehicles and equipment.

 

As a result of sequestration and budget shortfalls, Department of Defense is furloughing most of its employees for some amount of time during Fiscal Year 2013. If applicable, specific information regarding the administrative furlough will be provided to the individual selected for this position.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

(1) Troubleshoots, performs maintenance and major repairs on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical and automotive vehicles. (2) Troubleshoots equipment and diagnoses the cause of mechanical failures by means of visual and auditory checks and/or uses test equipment such as engine analyzers, compression testers, voltmeters, ohmmeters, pressure gauges, and computer diagnostic tools. (3) Removes and disassembles engines and major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, and fuel, hydraulic, and oil pressure systems. (4) Independently performs repairs and maintenance functions in remote locations that can be accomplished by removing, cleaning, reinstalling, or replacing defective parts of components and systems such as injectors, leaking wheel cylinders, corroded mufflers, fuel tanks, brake cylinders and worn brake shoes, voltage regulators, generators, injector pumps, and fuel pumps. (5) Conducts readiness and repair inspections on vehicles and associated equipment supported by the activity. (6) May maintain and repair electronics communication equipment by removing and replacing components and elements. (7) Assists in the maintenance of production reports and records, and makes recommendations to the supervisor. (8) Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 

WG-08: Must have 12 months experience or training using common hand and power tools and a small variety of test and measurement devices to make mechanical repairs.  Experience removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing a variety of parts, components, and accessories.  Experience which demonstrates a basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to vehicles; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments.  Experience demonstrating an understanding of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships.  Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures’ repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.

 

WG-10: Must have 18 months experiences or training diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems. Experience which has provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment.  Experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems.  Experienced in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on vehicles, equipment and systems.

 

Minimum Requirements: Experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, simple preventative maintenance tasks, and is able to use common tools and equipment in the line of work.

 

Meeting the months of experience requirement will not by itself be accepted as proof of qualification.  Quality, type, and scope of experience or education must be demonstrated to show that applicant is fully qualified to perform duties at the grade level announced.

 

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: Resume must reflect applicable experience.

1.  Knowledge of the mechanical makeup, operation and working relationships of complex systems, assemblies and parts for a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles and equipment.

2.  Skill in the use of test measurement and diagnostic equipment such as oscilloscopes, ohmmeters, dosimeters, etc.

3.  Ability to utilize, interpret and apply parts list, manufacturer’s repair manuals, technical manual manuals, diagrams, engineering drawings, diagnostic computer information and schematics.

4.  Ability to repair or overhaul major components such as diesel, multi-fuel or gasoline engines, turbine engines, automatic and manual transmissions, drive line assemblies, electrical and electronic systems and accessories, fuel injection systems, and emission control systems.

5.  Ability to teach procedures, principles, and knowledge related to trade and craft practices.
