POSITION NUMBER: 5800-0

WORK SCHEDULE:  Monday through Friday:  8:00 AM to 4:30 PM

***Relocation expenses and/or incentives are NOT authorized.***

 

Serves as the Construction & Maintenance Foreman responsible for maintenance and repair, facilities operations, utility systems, and major renovations at one division of the Palo Alto Health Care System.  Directly supervises three general foremen and a work force of 24 to 30 full-time and temporary employees and is responsible for maintenance and repair.  Duties include site preparation, installation, setup and utilities, repair and maintenance and resolution of deficiencies at all facilities.  Prepares and develops contract specifications, performing technical review and evaluation of all contract bids for maintenance contracts, and modification of all one-time service and maintenance contracts.  Activation activities include coordination of all VA-installed equipment, coordinating utility service connections for all equipment, providing sufficient resources to activate the newly construction area.  Responsible for maintenance and repair of all network components necessary to generate, distribute, and maintain environmental services such as power, water, conditioned air, and area monitoring to provide a safe and productive health care environment.  Incumbent is responsible for ensuring full implementation of the Utility management program under the Joint Commission Environment of Care.  Performs other related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work environment include both outside and inside with possible exposer of excessive heat, cold, humidity, noise, dust, electrical energy, slippery or uneven walking surfaces, working around machinery with moving parts, working on ladders or scaffolding and blow ground.  Work may also include working under unusual emotional strain.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Performance of the duties can be physically demanding involving walking, sitting, crawling, climbing, standing, and long periods of intense concentration. Lifting and carrying  of objects 100 pounds and over.  Operation of crane, truck, tractor or motor vehicle required.  Near vision correctable at 13” to 16” to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, depth perception, ability to distinguish shades of color and hearing without aid required.
