JOB SUMMARY:

About the Position:

 

THIS IS AN EXPEDITED HIRING AUTHORITY ANNOUNCEMENT. Subsection 1705(h) of title 10, U.S.C., as amended by Section 831 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal YEAR 2010 (NDAA 2010) provides that the Secretary of Defense may designate acquisition positions within Department of Defense as shortage positions or where there is a critical hiring need, and can recruit and appoint qualified persons directly to positions so designated.

For appointment to the position, candidates meet or will meet DAWIA certification requirements within specified time frames.

The job opportunity announcement will generate a Certificate of Eligibles that is good for ninety(90) days and may be used to fill other permanent vacancies at Team Redstone without further public notice.

This position will be filled at the GS-09 or GS-11 grade level.

The full potential level of this position is GS-12.

  • Prepare government cost estimates and schedules for development of interior design studies and documents.
  • Develop complete Comprehensive Interior Design (CID) packages for assigned projects,incorporating the most recent technology as it relates to design, equipment systems, and construction techniques.
  • Prepare equipment (furniture) procurement packages to accompany building design documents which include detailed furnishings and equipment layout, functional needs, cost estimates, specifications, procurements documents, and placement plans.
  • Participate in conferences and meetings with Contract Specialists for furniture acquisitions.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.  Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Experience required (GS-1008-09): To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.  Specialized experience is defined as: Preparing technical documents for contract acquisitions, AutoCAD, Revit, and/or MicroStation drawings, and bid abstracts, as well as space planning, furniture layout and modifications, for furniture and installation services.  Evaluating cost proposals and tracking project costs throughout the life of a project as well as inspecting furniture to ensure it meets all required specifications such as size and color and is free of manufacturing defects and freight damage. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following area:

  • Knowledge of Technical Specifications of Furniture

 

Experience required (GS-1008-11): To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: Creating and analyzing Comprehensive Interior Design packages and reviewing plans for construction practicability, identifying changes if necessary. Creating plans, section details, and schedules, ensuring technical quotes submitted by furniture manufacturers are in compliance with plans, specifications, and safety regulations during construction, as well as monitoring and coordinating with project managers, and other applicable parties on the completion of the architectural and interior design and construction phases of projects . This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following area:

  • Knowledge of Technical Specifications of Furniture
  • Skill in Technical Review


Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:

GS-1008-09:

 

A Masters or equivalent graduate degree or two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Masters degree in a major field of study in interior design or other field that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in interior design, interior architecture, or interior environmental design. OR

Equivalent combination of education and experience. The total percentage of education and experience must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for the GS-09 grade level.(To compute the percentage divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education above 1 year by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent toqualify. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts).

GS-1008-11:

 

A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a doctoral degree in a major field of study in interior design or other field that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in interior design, interior architecture, or interior environmental design. OR

Equivalent combination of education and experience. The total percentage of education and experience must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for the GS-11 grade level.(To compute the percentage divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education above 2 years by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent toqualify.
