The Bureau of the Fiscal Service promotes the financial integrity and operational efficiency of the U.S. government through exceptional accounting, borrowing, collections, payments, and shared services. The Accounting Technician participates and assists in developing policies, guidelines, procedures, and controls for debt, administrative, and governmentwide accounting related issues.

This appointment is being filled under the Pathways Program - Recent Graduate program.

The Recent Graduates Program provides individuals, who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs, with developmental opportunities in the Federal Government. Participants must have obtained a degree, or completed a qualifying career or technical education program within the preceding 2 years. Upon successful completion of the program, if you are a United States citizen, you may be noncompetitively converted to a permanent position, or in some circumstances a term appointment in the competitive service.


The following are the duties of this position at the GS-07.  If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

  • Researches and takes/coordinates corrective action as needed.  Researches all problems and develops applicable solutions which may be routine or highly complex.
  • Provides customer service to numerous callers daily in a help desk call center environment on system related questions.  This includes explaining how to enter various documents into the financial systems, troubleshooting systems problems, and explaining how various aspects of the systems function.
  • Responds to routine system inquires submitted via email or phone by internal and external personnel.
  • Uses the full functionality of personal computers and applicable software including:  Windows, spreadsheets, word processing, and database management packages.  This also includes the ability to produce reports from databases maintained on mainframes, personal computers, or client servers.
