The Honors Program has specific eligibility requirements. For details, visit http://www.justice.gov/careers/legal/entry-eligibility.html Incoming hires must have a law degree (J.D. or equivalent) and be eligible for admission to the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) at the time of entry on duty. Current law students may apply subject to eligibility criteria. Honors Program hires who are not admitted to a bar must become active members of a bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) not later than 14 months after initial entry on duty. Some hiring offices require applicants to be admitted to a bar or to have recently taken a bar exam with results pending as a condition of consideration. Certain U.S. Attorney's Offices require incoming hires to become admitted to the bar of the state where the office is located.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Each participating hiring office independently selects interview candidates based on many elements of a candidate's background including academic achievement, law review or moot court experience, legal aid and clinical experience, and summer or post-law school graduation clerkships and fellowships. The Department also considers specialized academic studies (including undergraduate and post-graduate degrees), work experience, and extracurricular activities that directly relate to the work of the Department. In addition, each hiring office considers the applicant's qualifications as they relate to its specific mission or legal practice areas.

SALARY RANGE: $50,287.00 - $71,674.00 USD/year. This program hires for entry-level positions in multiple offices, boards, divisions, bureaus, and participating U.S. Attorney's Offices. Some attorney positions, including Assistant U.S. Attorneys, us the AD pay plan. Salary range above does not include locality pay. Entrance on duty is contingent upon completion of a pre-employment security investigation and suitability review.
It is the policy of the Department to achieve a drug-free workplace and persons selected for employment will be required to pass a drug test which screens for illegal drug use prior to final appointment.
