Recent Graduates Program positions are open to individuals who completed a qualifying educational program within the preceding 2 years. There are 2 exceptions:

This position provides for a Program Assistant in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) primarily supporting the Patient Centered Care and Cultural Transformation Field Based Implementation Teams (FIT) activities primarily in Region 1 and selected national projects assigned to the OPCC&CT FIT Associate Director. The incumbent of this position will provide administrative and technical support for Patient Centered Care activities.  The incumbent will be knowledgeable about the content of Patient Centered Care (PCC), and will be required to consistently demonstrate high levels of PCC bahaviors with all contacts.






The incumbent of this position will be required to provide project management and support for specific Patient Centered Care initiatives, including contact with members of the staff or agency, and persons outside of the agency ranging from other government agencies to consultants to other organizations. Independently perform administrative work that includes project management for key patient centered care programs and activities.  Examples include:  developing processes for collecting and managing documentation of program activities and program evaluation; creating charters for committees; reviewing PCC literature; supporting committees. Based on objectives, determines specific steps, input required, and/or milestones, identifies schedule/time required, and estimates resources required.


The incumbent will also be required to research and analyze problems, issues, or program requirements, specifically related to Patient Centered Care consultation and evaluation of implementation for a national or large healthcare organization. Gather and review evaluation survey responses, conduct a thorough summary analysis, formats results in a concise manner for management review and make recommendations based on the findings.   Research and determine pertinent issues and collect relevant information from a variety of sources. Review information and applies standard analytical techniques. The Program Assistant will develop recommendations and proposals and prepare briefing materials for the supervisor's presentations to staff and contacts outside the organization/agency.


The incumbent will also provide support for committees, boards, councils, and conferences, including national efforts with selected healthcare organizations to better learn and understand various approaches to Patient Centered Care. Process and help to prepare materials such as correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other forms of written communication. Perform the following types of duties: drafts, edit and compose letters and reports; review correspondence for accuracy and completeness; prepare public presentation outlines; and develops standard or forms letters and replies to inquiries. Screen publications, directives, and periodicals, and bring those of significance to the supervisor's attention.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement 


Time-in-grade:  Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-06) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.  Examples of specialized experience may have been gained by providing secretarial and/or administrative support performing duties such as: taking meeting minutes; composing, typing and editing letters, reports, meeting notes, and other documents; maintaining logs and files; preparing agendas; scheduling appointments, coordinating meetings and or scheduling conferences; maintaining calendars and schedules for staff; obtaining and monitoring supplies and/or equipment; and making travel arrangements. NOTE: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
