DUTIES: The Housekeeping Aid is part of the Environmental Management Service at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial VA Hospital, Bedford, MA. Some of the duties include:

·         Performing a variety of custodial duties with minimal instruction;

·         Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, refinishing and buffing floors, walls and woodwork;

·         Vacuuming/shampooing carpets and spot washing areas;

·         Dusting and cleaning offices, lobbies, recreation areas and furniture;

·         Emptying trash and wastebaskets, replacing liners; transporting recyclables and trash to established collection points;

·         Replenishing paper towels, toilet paper and soap in all dispensers;

·         Cleaning rest rooms, bathrooms and shower rooms;

·         Moving and arranging all types of furniture to accomplish cleaning tasks;

·         Providing bed-making services in patient care areas; cleaning mattresses, springs and bed frames;

·         Cleaning windows, glass doors and other glass surfaces;

·         Selecting and safely using special cleaning agents and germicidal solutions to remove stains from a wide variety of surfaces;

·         Removing snow from entryways, sidewalks and steps using brooms, shovels and gas powered snow blowers;

·         Performing other related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Varied tours of duty
