The VISN 23 Minneapolis VA Health Care System Mental & Behavioral Health Service Line is seeking a qualified Social Worker for the Addiction Disorders Team as a case manager.

The individual's clinical duties are assigned to the Addiction Disorders Team in the Mental Health Product Service Line of the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs (class 1A High Complexity) Health Care System.

  

The full performance level for this position is GS 11, which requires completion of a minimum of 1 year of post-MSW degree experience in the field of health care social work (VA or non-VA experience) and licensure or certification in a state at the independent practice level. Or, in addition to meeting basic requirements, a doctoral degree in social work from a school of social work may be substituted for the required 1 year professional social work experience in a clinical setting.

 

Responsibilities include:

-Independently conducting psychosocial assessments

-Developing treatment plans in collaboration with the veteran/family and the interdisciplinary treatment team

-Possesses the skills to offer psycho-social interventions and measures outcomes to interventions

-Coordinates community-bases services, including information and referral for additional services from other VA programs, other government programs and community agency programs

-Independently identifies high-risk patients and provides case management services

-Provides crisis intervention services, seeking to address the cause as well as the presenting complaint

-Coordinates family conferences and serves as liaison to family members and has working knowledge and experience in use of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities and treatment procedures

 

Work Schedule: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, working every Saturday with a day off during the normal work week.

Salary: To be determined by Professional Standard Board of your peers and based on your education and experience.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

· U. S. Citizenship

· Education: Master's degree in social work (MSW) from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE web site to verify if that social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a master of social work (http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation/Accredited-Programs.aspx).

· Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. VHA social workers who are not licensed or certified at the time of appointment must become licensed or certified at the independent, masters level within 3 years of their appointment as a social worker.

· English Language Proficiency: Social Workers must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005.

Loss of licensure or certification will result in removal from the GS-185 social work series and may result in termination of employment.

 

Preferred Experience:  Clinical experience as a social worker in chemical dependency is preferred.
