We are recruiting for a Full-Time or Part-Time Physician (Psychiatrist) at the Buffalo VA Medical Center.  The Buffalo VA Medical Center provides medical, surgical, mental health and long term care services through a range of inpatient and outpatient programs. Applications will be accepted from United States citizens and nationals.  Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.

The VA Western New York Healthcare System in Buffalo, New York, has an opening for a full-time or part-time Staff Psychiatrist to work within a large group of providers ranging between 14 - 16 Psychiatrist. Staff Psychiatrists can receive faculty appointments at the affiliated SUNY at Buffalo School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry.  The selected candidate will have clinical responsibilities that could include inpatient/outpatient general psychiatry, substance abuse or consultation as well as teaching responsibilities for medical students and psychiatry residents.  Research interest is desirable. Selected candidate will be required to provide onsite consultation for involuntary admissions; therefore, will share limited night and weekend on call with other staff.

a)  Citizenship:   Citizen of the United States. (Appointments may be made without regard to citizenship requirements  if determined that it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens for the necessary services)

b)  Education:   Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine  or osteopathic medicine.   The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of  Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.  

c)  Licensure and Registration: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.  

d)  Board certified/eligible.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must satisfactorily pass a pre-employment physical as required by VA Directive and Handbook 5019.

Drug Testing:  This is a testing designated position (TDP) under the VA Drug-Free Workplace Program.  If you are tentatively selected for the position and are not now in a TDP subject to random testing, you may be subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to final selection.  Applicants who refuse to be tested will not be selected. Appointment to this position will not be effected if there is a verified positive drug test result.


Physical Requirements:  Selected candidate may be required to successfully pass a medical examination.


Background Investigation: Appointment to this position is contingent upon satisfactory completion of the required background investigation.
