DUTY LOCATION/CAMPUS: Nursing Service, North Little Rock Campus, Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System

TOUR OF DUTY: Irregular - Based on the needs of the service.

As a Nursing Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting in the care of patients in an inpatient setting which can include: obtaining vital signs, height and weight measurements, assisting with activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, oral care, dressing, ambulation, etc), assistance with meals, and other tasks as delegated by the Registered Nurse.

Area of Consideration: UNITES STATES CITIZENS.

Note: The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-4.

Nursing Assistant duties include but are not limited to the following:

· Performs moderately difficult nursing care tasks requiring knowledge of specific patient conditions and treatments

· Identifies nursing needs of individual patients and takes an active part in admissions, dietary needs, safety and comfort of patient

· Observes for changes in patient condition

· Participates in teaching both patient and families regarding care being provided, supplies and equipment

· Duties are performed with intermittent supervision by a Registered Nurse

· New or unusual tasks are checked during progress and upon completion until employee is well trained

 

The full performance level of this position is GS-4.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-04 LEVEL:

Six (6) Months of specialized experience that equips you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position at the GS-4 level.  Qualifying specialized experience includes nonprofessional nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or medical, nursing, or patient care facility, or in such work as that of a home health aide performing duties such as: personal nursing care (pre- and post-operative care), support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment procedures, caring for mentally ill patients, and assisting surgeons and registered nurses in operating room activities,

 

OR

 

Have you successfully completed a 2-year degree program in an accredited community college, junior college, or college/university in practical nursing or in a field of study appropriate to the specialization of this position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires regular and recurring periods of standing and walking throughout the ward. May be required to defend self and others from the physical attack of patients.
