The Joint Task Force National Capital Region Medical (JTF CapMed) is the future of Military Medicine- a partnership in World Class Medical Healthcare. The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE), Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Dilorenzo Clinic and the Joint Pathology Center, provide world class medical services to the nation's service members and their families.

About thePosition:

This position is located in the Fort Belvoir CommunityHospital DEP CDR for Nursing, Fort Belvoir, VA.

Physical Demands: This position involves frequent lifting of baskets of instruments weighing 25 to 50 pounds from floor level to chest level, lifting and positioning wire baskets overhead, standing, walking, and pushing loaded carts weighing several hundred pounds.

Work Environment: The employee is subject to moderate risks and discomforts that require special safety precautions; i.e., working around moving parts or machines, hot items, sharp sterile and contaminated instruments, body fluids, bits of tissue, and strong, unpleasant odors. The work requires the employee to wear protective clothing such as: hair covers, shoe covers, masks, gowns, goggles, gloves, or shields which can be uncomfortably warm.

You will serve as a Medical Supply Technician in the Sterile Processing Department. Responsible for processing, preparing, and distributing the complete range of clean and sterile surgical instruments required for patient care. Perform daily quality assurance testing on all equipment used in cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments. Select the appropriate sterilization method to use based on the manufacturers requirements. Monitor and track surgical instruments through the automated tracking system. Maintain maintenance and inventory levels on all surgical equipment.

General Schedule


In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Typical examples of such work include (but are not limited to): processing, assembling, trouble-shooting, preparing, sterilizing, storing, and issuing sterile and unsterile medical supplies and equipment. These examples are typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-06.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

· Knowledge of decontamination procedures

· Knowledge of surgical instruments needed for procedures

· Skill in operating automated sterilization equipment

· Ability to use automated tools
