This position is located in the Information Technology Division of Southwest Regional Maintenance Center. The incumbent is responsible for the technical support for Legacy and Navy Marine Corps (NMCI) personal computer (PC) users. The incumbent receives and resolves trouble calls from personal computer users indicating their inability to log into PC.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

As a HELP DESK COMPUTER ASSISTANT, your duties will include, but not be limited to:

·         Maintaining an automated list of property; controlling and monitoring all property by issuing hand-receipts when property is in excess or transferred in or out of the office.

·         Obtaining information from users who are experiencing network problems and obtain the necessary information for the prompt resolution of the problem.

·         Providing a variety of storage, control, stock, and inventory management functions.

·         Applying knowledge of word processing and database software in order to prepare correspondence, forms, reports, etc.

·         Monitoring the progress in resolving the different problems reported to the Network Response Center.

·         Interpreting error messages that appear on the computer screen, checking for loose connections, identifying or correcting problems with peripheral devices such as printers, plotters, or external drives.

·         Answering incoming trouble calls received at the help desk, emails, or customers’ walk-in requests from individuals who are reporting microcomputer hardware or software problems or local area network problems.

Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Entering customer reported problems into the help desk automated trouble ticket system; and operating a computer terminal with a standard style keyboard in order to execute a variety of office automation functions such as data entry, error correlation, reports/data retrieval or researching for specific records.

REQUIREMENTS: 

 

Selectee is required to participate in the Department of Defense direct deposit of pay program.

The work requires some physical exertion. There may be long periods of walking, standing, bending, reaching, or other similiar activities. Duties require regular lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 50 pounds. Heavier objects are lifted with the assistance of others or with weight handling equipment such as hand trucks or dollies.

The work is normally performed in an office environment which is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. However, work is also performed in the warehouse, commercial shipyards, and Naval Commands involving moderate risks and discomforts such as working around moving warehouse equipment, temperature changes, and drafts due to open dock doors.
