This is a TERM, 2-year position located in the Pain Medicine Center, Department of Anesthesiology, Directorate of Surgical Service, Naval Medical Center, San Diego, California. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating nursing care and related administrative activities pertaining to the health care needs of patients serviced in this specialty clinic.

·         Collaborates with other members of the healthcare deliver team providing support to the target populations.

·         Functions as the administrative expert for patient care programs.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

·         Plan and coordinated nursing care of the Pain Medicine Patient and independently solves problems related to nursing care.

·         Independently developed and implemented therapeutic plans and clinical practice (verbal and written) in collaboration with the attending physician to achieve nursing and medical goals.

·         Identified, co-authored, and implemented treatment for the delivery of quality health care to patients and support to their family.   

·         Collaborated with other advanced practice nurses, medical and nursing professionals, mental health, nutritional services, and other involved in providing support to the target populations.

·         Oversaw professional development and clinical competency of nursing personnel assigned to the Department of Pain Medicine.

·         Functioned as the administrative expert for patient care programs.

Generally, current Federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade.  All qualifications and time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement and clearly documented in your resume.

Maintain professional nursing credentials including Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.


You must have an active, current National certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) by the American Nurses Association.


Ability to meet all credentialing requirements of Naval Medical Center San Diego.
