JOB SUMMARY:

The Indian Health Service (IHS) is the principal federal health care provider and health advocate for American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN). The IHS goal is to raise Indian health status to the highest possible level. IHS provides leadership and direction to programs and activities designed to improve health outcomes to over 1.9 million AI/AN through a system of IHS, Tribal and Urban operated facilities and programs.

This position will manage programs for Infection Control and Occupation Health.  Will work with all departments for Infection Control issues and will work with all staff for Occupational Health.  Position will also supervise three housekeeping staff.  Position reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

  • Evaluates, develops and implements the Employee Health and Infection Control program for the Service Unit.
  • Monitors service unit employees for specific required tests upon entry and annually as required by governing agencies.
  • Provides health screening and related services.
  • Identifies factors in the work environment that present a safety hazard to employee’s health.
  • Formulates policies and procedures for employee health and infection control to meet regulatory agencies guidelines.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

Education: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accredited agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
AND
Registration: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
AND

In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following types of tasks: experience as a professional nurse coordinating an employee health program to include treatment of job related injuries and illnesses. Coordinate and implement an infection control program.

 

SELECTIVE FACTOR:

In addition to the qualification requirements for the OPM and the IHS Excepted Service Qualifications described above, to be rated basically qualified for this position, candidates must possess current, valid, active, unrestricted license as a professional nurse from any State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. New graduates must also possess this licensure as indicated with no grace period allowed.

Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at theGS-10 for the GS-11 grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT:
