In accordance with 5 U.S.C. 3307, a maximum entry age of 36 has been established for initial appointment to a position in a Bureau of Prisons institution. If you are above the maximum entry age and have prior federal law enforcement coverage, you MUST submit an SF-50 to verify prior coverage.
Qualified Preference Eligible Veterans may be exempt from meeting the maximum age of 37. Please refer to the Required Documents Section for the appropriate documentation to submit to validate veteran eligibility.
Serves as a personal administrative assistant to the Captain and provides clerical services for the Lieutenants. Receives all incoming telephone calls directed to the Correctional Services Department. Ascertains the identity of the caller and the purpose of the call, determines those which should be routed to the appropriate individual and those which can be handled personally, and refers others to appropriate institution departments. Incumbent handles routine inquiries from both staff and inmates, providing technical assistance and answering questions regarding the general nature of correctional services. Utilizing a computer, incumbent type reports of assaults, escapes, deaths, and major and minor incidents to the regional and Central Office, with a high degree of accuracy. Request pertinent data from other departments, for inclusion in the Correctional Services Quarterly Reports. Responsible for preparing itineraries and travel vouchers, and making all travel arrangements for the Captain. Provides direct supervision of inmate orderlies assigned to the Captain and Lieutenants, acts as a resource person, and ensures the accuracy of inmate work. May perform timekeeping duties including maintaining and preparing time and attendance records. May collect and compile statistical data.
Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.
