The incumbent will function as a member of the existing Suicide
Prevention Team with the title Suicide Prevention Coordinator (SPC). SPCs
will assist in the care for veterans at risk for suicide within the Mental
Health Service. He/she will work with the existing team to oversee and
facilitate the implementation of suicide prevention strategies at a local level.
Activities will include support for the identification of Veterans at high
risk; coordinating enhanced care when needed, and education of providers,
Veterans, families, and members of the community on risk factors and warning
signs for suicide, and treatment options. He/she will provide diagnoses of
mental disorders, particularly for complex or unusually difficult patients,
education to patients, family members, and significant disorders. Provide
comprehensive, evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions, including
individual, family, and group psychotherapy. Develops, implements, and document
the psychotherapeutic treatment plan for an assigned case load of patients,
including prompt completion of clinical reminders. The SPC team will track all suicide
attempts and patients with serious suicidal ideation at each facility through
the use of the Suicide Behavior Event Report. Assures all veterans on the
facility tracking list are being followed closely by the appropriate provider
on a regular basis as determined by the coordinator and the provider. Track any
no-show appointments by patients and follow up with the patient as soon as
possible to reschedule. Maintains awareness of suicide treatment options and
makes recommendations to the patients provider(s) when new options become
available. Assures all patients have a 24-hour resource number (Veterans Crisis
Line) to call and ways to get assistance if an immediate crisis should occur.
Conduct ongoing program evaluation and data-driven quality improvement projects
to monitor the effectiveness of the clinical program. Facilitate liaisons with
other health care programs in order to effectively coordinate services. Perform
other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm.
