This position is located in the Defense Media Activity (DMA), which is a Department of Defense (DoD) field activity reporting to the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Public Affairs). The DMA is a worldwide media organization employing state-of-the-art and emerging multi-media production and distribution technologies and operates from multiple locations in the US and overseas and with deployed combat and contingency forces throughout the world.

As a Human Resources Trainee (Pathways Internship), you will: 

- Serve as a Human Resources (HR) Assistant to higher graded specialists and program managers working in a variety of HR fields.

- Participate in and proceed independently to accomplish routine and recurring administrative and clerical work.

- Compose and type correspondence from brief, written and oral instructions where information can be obtained from files. Obtain information through researching regulations and previous correspondence.

- Enter, extract, track, sort and compile statistical and/or other pertinent data and material from or into HR information systems.

- Use a variety of computer programs, including databases, spreadsheets, word processing and custom designed software to perform daily operations.

- Assist specialists during Benefits open seasons.

Specifically you will be evaluated on the following competencies:

1. Knowledge of, and skill in applying, a body of HR rules, procedures, and operations sufficient to perform a variety of HR support work.

2. Ability to use personal computers with office applications to perform operations or to prepare documents containing tables or graphs.

3. Ability to perform research.

Education requirement:

For the GS-4 Level: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associates degree


Completion of 1 academic year of study and two periods of student trainee work experience. A period of student trainee work experience is the equivalent of 2 months (320 hours) of full time work experience.


Completion of 1 1/2 academic years of study and one period of student trainee work experience.A period of student trainee work experience is the equivalent of 2 months (320 hours) of full time work experience.


Transcripts MUST be provided. Failure to provide transcripts will result in you being rated ineligible for this position. This education must be from an accredited college or university accredited by an organization approved by the U.S. Department of Education. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted with applications.
