Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Serving as a Firefighter/Paramedic extinguishing fires, operating hose lines, set and climb ladders, make forcible entries, ventilate fire areas, conduct search and rescue operations, performing medical services and operating a variety of hand tools, power tools, and related equipment.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Serving as a Firefighter/Paramedic providing fire prevention, fire protection, and emergency operations to include structural and aircraft firefighting, emergency medical service, hazardous material responses, disaster response /control and recovery, heavy rescue, swift water rescue, confined space rescue, and public education.
Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Selectee must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
This position has a Selective Placement Factor (screen-out) will also be used to determine minimum qualifications for this position. Applicants not possessing this Selective Placement Factor will be found ineligible for this position. The Selective Placement Factor is:
Valid and current State or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (NREMT-P) certification.
At the GS-09 level, this position has an additional Selective Placement Factor (screen-out) which will also be used to determine minimum qualifications for this position. This is a Mission Essential position. Selectee must report to and or remain at work regardless of inclement weather, national disaster/emergencies.
GS-08 Level Only - Selectee must obtain and maintain a current Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Airport Firefighter, and Hazardous Materials Technician certifications within 24 months of employment.
Selectee must obtain and maintain a valid state Class A Non-Commercial Driver's License within 120 days of employment.
Call back, overtime, weekend, night, and holiday work are regular requirements of this position.
Selectee will be required to work varying and/or rotating shifts.
Selectee will be required to work a 144 hour biweekly/48 hour tour schedule.
Work requires frequent and extreme physical exertion under rigorous and unusual conditions including walking, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling, climbing and working from ladders and elevating apparatus, descending into confined spaces, and using heavy, bulky tools or equipment.
Selectee will be required to work in totally encapsulated suits with heavy self contained breathing apparatus weighing 40-50 pounds.
Selectee must be able to cope with the mental and physical conditions of the position.
Work is performed outdoors, often under adverse weather conditions, in a wide variety of environments and situations that place the selectee under great stress.
Selectee will be exposed to extreme temperatures, high noises and confined spaces that are hostile and unfamiliar.
Must be able to wear personal type safety equipment and specialized protective clothing.
Selectee may be exposed to communicable diseases such as HIV, Hepatitis A, B, C, and unhealthful, unsanitary conditions while treating patients/victims.
