Applicant's education and length of practice (experience) will be considered by a Professional Standards Board and Compensation Panel in determining the salary of the applicant selected.  

 

Tour of Duty: 

8:00 AM – 4:30 PM M-F with plans for extended clinic hours to 6:30 PM one day a week and one Saturday clinic (8:00AM-4:30PM) per month.  No call responsibilities.  Internal medicine specialists interested in precepting for Wright State University School of Medicine Internal Medicine resident inpatient rotations may opt for this voluntary responsibility (2 weeks at a time, 2 times per year).

 

Relocation or recruitment incentives may be authorized for qualified candidates.

Full-time Physician position for a residency trained (preferred) family physician or internist, located within the Primary Care Service, of the Dayton VA Medical Center, Dayton, Ohio or Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). 

The incumbent serves as a Primary Care Physician in an outpatient Primary Care clinic.  Duties include, but are not limited to:  providing comprehensive outpatient care for a panel of adult patients through a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) Model, also utilizing Tele-health as a resource of providing care.  Serves as a provider who is highly skilled in the management of a patient’s primary care needs or sub specialty evaluation and treatment;  responsible to contribute to the achievement of quality of care standards, efficiency, process improvement and patient satisfaction;  writes orders for diagnostic testing prescribed medications and consultation to specialty services utilizing computer-keyboarding techniques.  The incumbent may need to provide Collaborative or Clinical Supervising Oversight to Physician Extender.  Responsible for a panel of 1200 patients, working within a “medical home” model of clinical practice.  Works closely with assigned registered nurse (care coordinator), licensed practical nurse and administrative clerk to manage acute and chronic health needs of patients.  Endeavors to maintain same day access, long term continuity for patients and reducing opportunities for emergency room visits and unexpected hospitalizations.  Uses virtual modalities to improve efficiencies of practice, to include telephone visits, secure messaging, electronic consults, clinical video teleconferencing and home Telehealth.  Works closely with clinical pharmacists, social workers, nutritional medicine specialists and other medical specialists to provide comprehensive and coordinated care for empanelled patients.  Uses an electronic medical record (CPRS) to document patient care and initiate and track consultations and diagnostic studies. The incumbent is expected to practice in accordance with professional standards, values, and with a commitment to service excellence.

 

Board certification or eligibile in Family Practice or Internal Medicine highly desired/preferred.

Basic Requirements:

 

a.  Citizenship.  Citizen of the United States.  (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g, this part.)

 

b.  Education.  Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.  (See Education section for additional information).

 

c.  Licensure and Registration

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.  The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.  

 

d.  English Language Proficiency.  Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.  Approved schools are:

 

(1)  Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.

 

(2)  Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.

 

(3)  Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.

 

(4)  For residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above is required except as provided in M-8, part II, chapter 1.
