The Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) is currently accepting applications under examining authority of 10 U.S.C., Section 2164 for an Information Technology (OS/Network) Specialist at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.  This vacancy announcement will be used for the purpose of filling this permanent, full-time position.  The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) is a major Department of Defense Field Activity.  It is composed of the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS), and the Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS). The DoDEA mission is to provide a program of high quality of education for eligible dependents of military and civilian personnel of the United States Government stationed throughout the world.

The primary purpose of this role is to support administrative and educational functions by performing analytical and technical work to plan, install, secure, maintain, integrate, and modify IT systems.  The primary IT systems include workstations, servers, networking hardware (switches/routers), printers, server based workstation management tools, server based workstation imaging tools, DoD web based services, DoDEA server based computing services, and commercial educational software.  Serve as technical expert on Microsoft Windows operating systems for technology implementations at assigned duty location.  Automates and provides technical expertise for software application deployment in a K12 education environment.  Coordinates with other DoDEA IT support staff, school administration and senior management necessary to analyze requirements, plan system implementations, comply with DoDEA/DoD policy, document system configurations, and maintain day to day operations in the schools. Plans, schedules, and executes installation services for new or modified hardware, operating systems, and software applications in support of the DoDEA mission.  Perform systems account management, maintains access control permissions, and manages software applications consistent with established policy, procedures, and business processes.  Respond to incident requests and provide desk side analysis of desktop operating systems, software or hardware problems. Takes corrective action as needed by removing reinstalling or reconfiguring desktop software or web services or by upgrading or reconfiguring device drivers and coordinating failed hardware replacement.  Explains, illustrates and demonstrates proper use of desktop operating system functions, network resource availability, data storage techniques, and other technology services that increases customer awareness and knowledge of DoDEA systems.
