This position is located in the US and Foreign Commercial Service, Office of Domestic Operations Field located in Old Westbury (Long Island), NY.

A one-year probationary period may be required.

Payment of relocation expenses are NOT authorized.

The individual selected for this position will:

  • Plan, develop, and implement export programs and strategies for US companies
  • Provide information on US Department of Commerce and other US government programs to support expanding trade,
  • Assist US companies in identifying and exploring export opportunities in overseas markets.
  • Respond to requests for information on market conditions, trade opportunities, and problems affecting trade in the region.
  • Analyze trade statistics and contribute to market research efforts.
  • Prepare summaries, articles, or short reports on current trade issues.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate contacts with US industry, US Government agencies, and international organizations involved in international trade.

There is no positive education requirement for the 1140 series.

Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.

To qualify at the GS-09 level: You must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) in the Federal service. Specialized experience at this grade level is defined as: experience working with or advising on the export of goods and services to foreign countries; and experience researching trade and economic data.

OR

Education:  Two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in international policy, international commerce, international management, intercultural relations, international development, global economy, government and foreign affairs, international business, international trade, international economics, international affairs, international relations, or other related fields of study.

OR

Combination of graduate level education and specialized experience.

To qualify at the GS-11 level:  You must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next to lower grade level (GS-09) in the Federal service. Specialized experience at this grade level is defined as: experience providing guidance on or assisting in the export of goods and services to foreign countries; Experience researching, interpreting and analyzing trade and economic data; and Experience working with trade statutes and regulations,

OR

Education:  Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., in international policy, international commerce, international management, intercultural relations, international development, global economy, government and foreign affairs, international business, international trade, international economics, international affairs, international relations, or other related fields of study.

OR

Combination of graduate level education beyond the Master's level and specialized experience.

To qualify at the GS-12 level:  You must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next to lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal service. Specialized experience at this grade level is defined as: experience providing counseling and crafting customized solutions involving the export of goods and services to foreign countries;  Experience researching, interpreting and analyzing trade and economic data;  Experience organizing export related initiatives and/or programs;  Experience building international trade-related partnerships; and Experience working with trade statutes and regulations.

To qualify at the GS-13 level:  You must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next to lower grade level (GS-12) in the Federal service. Specialized experience at this grade level is defined as: experience counseling and crafting customized solutions involving the export of goods and services to foreign countries; Experience in creating and leading export-related initiatives and/or programs; and Experience in establishing and building partnerships in the international business community.
