Serves as an Information Technology (IT) Specialist with specialized knowledge in information security obtained through education or experience. This position is in the Office of Inspector General's Office of Audits providing IT auditing services, with a strong concentration on information security, involving GSA's IT programs and systems. The candidate selected will serve a key role in the identification of potential issues and vulnerabilities related to GSA's IT projects under review. Central to the incumbent's duties will be the evaluation of GSA’s IT programs, operations, systems and applications (including financial management), and/or acquisitions.  The incumbent will collect, evaluate and analyze data to identify performance deficiencies and/or programmatic issues.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education or experience as follows.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: To qualify based on experience for the GS-09 level, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is work that involves ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems, networks, and data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, procedures and tools. 

In addition to the specialized experience, the successful candidate will have IT-Information Security related experience demonstrating skill in EACH of the four competencies listed below:

1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

3. Oral Communication - Expresses information to individuals or groups effectively taking into account the audience and nature of the information; makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations


To qualify based on education at the GS-09 level, applicants must meet the education requirements listed below:

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: A Masters or equivalent degree or completed 2 full years of higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. The major field of study must be in Information Technology (Information Security).  Applicants must have intensive academic training in the information security field, with clear indication(s) that they can apply their education to real-world experiences. 

NOTE: Education completed outside of the United States must be deemed equivalent to that gained in conventional/accredited U.S. education programs to be acceptable for Federal employment. See OPM's General Policies for information on crediting education.

This position requires occasional travel, therefore the incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Government travel card. 

This position is a non-critical sensitive position and has been designated as a Public Trust Position.
