    The SSA Recent Graduates Program (Program) provides Recent Graduates with entry-level developmental experience and is designed to lead to a career in the Federal government. Recent Graduates must have obtained a qualifying degree or certificate within the preceding 2 years. Preference-eligible veterans who, due to military service obligation, were precluded from applying to the Program within the 2-year eligibility period may have additional time.

     

    The employee plans and conducts studies and projects applying economic theory and econometric techniques to the analysis, interpretation and presentation of program planning, evaluation and general management data. Produces statistical trust fund information to be used by SSA, Congress, other Federal agencies and the general public.

     

    Note: This is a developmental position leading to the full performance GS-110-12. At this level, incumbent may continue to consult with higher graded analysts. The duties will be gradually broadened so that the incumbent is eventually performing all of the duties of the full performance level.

    • Working with more senior economists, plans and conducts studies applying economic theory and econometric techniques to the analysis, interpretation, and presentation of program planning, evaluation, and general management data.
    • Working with more senior economists, designs and conducts economic studies to produce projections in the areas of labor force, productivity, and National Income and Product Accounts measures of economic output to be used in projecting trust fund revenues and expenditures.
    • Develops and designs computer programs necessary to produce statistical data and research reports.
    • Analyzes and responds to outside studies and inquiries relating to projections of SSA revenues and expenditures.

    Recent Graduates must meet the basic qualification requirements for the positions being filled, including any positive education requirements and/or selective placement factors.

    To qualify to the Pathways Recent Graduates Program, you must meet one of the following categories:

    • Recent graduates who have completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution. NOTE: Transcripts are required to substantiate possession of the required education.
    • Veterans unable to apply within two years of receiving their degree, due to military service obligation, have as much as six years after degree completion to apply. NOTE: Transcripts are required to substantiate possession of the required education. Veteran's documentation is required to substantiate military service obligation.

    In addition, to qualify at the GS-11 level, you must have one of the following:

    • At least 52 weeks of experience at the GS-9, or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position to be filled which has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience includes research into economic phenomena, analysis of economic data, and the preparation of interpretive reports; advice and consultation on economic matters to governmental officials and private organizations or citizens; and the performance of other professional work in economics including supervision and the direction of economists engaged in the various economics programs of the Federal Government. In addition, you must also have courses in economics totaling at least 21 semester hours. This course work must have also included a minimum of 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. NOTE: Transcripts are required to substantiate education; OR
    • A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Your educational degree must be in economics; or a degree that provided courses economics totaling at least 21 semester hours. This course work must have also included a minimum of 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. NOTE: Transcripts are required to substantiate education; OR
    • Completed 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a degree. Your educational degree must be in economics; or a degree that provided courses economics totaling at least 21 semester hours. This course work must have also included a minimum of 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. NOTE: Transcripts are required to substantiate education; OR
    • A combination of experience at the GS-9, or equivalent, which is in or related to the work of the position and progressively higher graduate level education totaling 100% of the requirements. You must have courses in economics totaling at least 21 semester hours. This course work must have also included a minimum of 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. NOTE: Transcripts are required to substantiate education.

    TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED TO SUBSTANTIATE POSSESSION OF QUALIFYING EDUCATION. All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
