Specialized experience is experience which is in the Economic Assistant field or a related occupation which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of qualifying experience may include: Significant experience in retail sales - specific knowledge of a wide variety of assorted products and/or service(s) offered by retail stores and businesses to the consumer; cold-calling sales; real estate sales or management; survey or marketing work; interviewers or in-take workers; jobs or volunteer experience that required detailed record keeping; jobs or volunteer experience that required oral persuasion skills; jobs or volunteer experience that involved public contact. Specialized experience must demonstrate the applicant's ability to perform research or related work that involved collecting, compiling, verifying, analyzing, or reporting data. Direct contact with, and direct sales to, the public is a plus; knowledge of products and service specifications; public outreach; specific knowledge of area sales and housing stock, pricing and customer base; general knowledge of constantly changing consumer marketing practices; familiarity with state, federal and local laws as they relate to consumer products/services especially prices, (i.e., licensing requirements, state taxes, excise taxes, labeling regulations, etc.); Using good skill in communicating, both orally and in writing; Using personal computers and application such as windows-based software applications, email, and the internet.

Education may be substituted for the required specialized experience for the GS-05 entry grade level of this position. (See assessment questions) For the grade 5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with major study in economics, OR 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as business law, statistics, algebra, pre calculus, calculus, or economics.

If you meet the minimum qualifications, you will be evaluated against the evaluation factors below and will be placed into a category based on your vacancy question responses.
Category A - Meets the basic qualification requirements for the vacancy and has successful experience in the same or similar job that has demonstrated superior proficiency in applying critical competencies required by this position to work of increased levels of difficulty and complexity.
Category B - Meets the basic qualification requirements for the vacancy and demonstrates satisfactory proficiency in the critical competencies required by this position.
Category C - Meets the specialized experience described in the minimum qualifications requirements section of this announcement and demonstrates proficiency in the basic competencies.

ECONOMIC DATA MANAGEMENT & ANALYSIS: Knowledge of the principles, procedures, tools, and activities of economic data management and analysis in conducting systematic and objective inquiries, such as study design, collection, analysis, and interpretation of data and the reporting of results. PROGRAM PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE: Understanding and applying the relevant design, data, processes, standards, systems and outputs of the economist's assigned program area, and knowledge of statistical and/or mathematical support processes.
The information you provide may be verified by a review of your work experience and/or education, by checking references and through other means (ex. interview). The examining Human Resources Office (HRO) makes the final determination concerning applicant ratings. Your resume MUST provide sufficient information to substantiate your responses to the vacancy questions. Your evaluation may also include a review by a Human Resources Specialist or panel and may include other assessments (ex. interview, panel review, written test, writing sample, etc.)
