The Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) is currently accepting applications under examining authority of 10 U.S.C., Section 2164, for Motor Vehicle Operator (Bus Driver) position(s) in DDESS, Fort Buchanan and Ramey (Aguadilla), Puerto Rico.   This announcement may be used for the purpose of filling multiple permanent, temporary, and/or term, part-time, seasonal positions.  Temporary positions may be converted to permanent without further competition, but conversion is not guaranteed.  The typical Bus Driver works 20 hours a week during the school year.

Incumbent provides safe and efficient transportation for students to and from school and is accountable for the safe delivery and accountability of any student on scheduled bus route. Incumbent operates a passenger bus with an approximate gross vehicle weight up to 30,000 pounds and with passenger capacity ranging from 20 to 72 students. May be required to transport students to and from school events. Vehicles are driven over predetermined routes with arrival at, and departure from, pick-up and discharge points at scheduled times. Drivers conduct maintenance and safety checks on the school bus prior to beginning all routes and report problems to the tranasportation supervisor. Incumbent is responsible for general cleaning of bus to include cleaning inside of bus daily and washing exterior of the bus once a month.


Assists in the loading and unloading of children with special needs and their equipment, as well as assisting these students in getting to and from their classrooms.  Works  with students in order to establish and maintain safety on the school bus at all times. Reports all disciplinary situations to the designated school official.  Records school bus route and schedule, including time information on the trip ticket.  Completes standard forms used in transportation division, such as field trip requests, time sheets, trouble and misconduct reports, route studies and accident reports, when necessary.


Provides transportation or field trips; may be required to drive on overnight field trips.

Applicants must possess: one year of specialized experience and must show that you have had sufficient experience and/or training that provide you with the ability to perform the duties of the position (operation of a school bus) with little or no supervision. Knowledge and skill in operating a heavy vehicle (bus) carefully and safely is required.

Applicants must have a valid Puerto Rico heavy vehicle license (class 8 or 9) and must be able to obtain/maintaine a Federal Government operator's license for heavy vehicles as a condition of continued employment.

You must be able to understand and follow verbal orders in English.


Must meet OPM minimum qualification standards to be considered for this position.
