This position can be filled at the GS-05 grade level, GS-06 grade level, or it can be filled as a developmental position and may have promotion potential to the GS-06 grade level.

SECRETARY (OA), GS-0318-05
In this position, you will serve as the principal clerk of the school, providing administrative assistance to the Principal, staff, and faculty. Performs a variety of office support duties, e.g. receives telephone calls or visitors, answers questions and provides information of a routine nature based on knowledge of programs and operations. Maintains supervisor’s calendar, prepares and types documents and correspondence to include suspense reports. Maintains files and records. Requisitions office supplies, equipment and publications. Performs timekeeping functions for the school. Makes travel arrangements.

SECRETARY (OA), GS-0318-06
In this position, you will serve as personal assistant/secretary to the school principal/supervisor and coordinate other clerical works for the assigned office staff. Performs a variety of office support duties, e.g. receives telephone calls or visitors, answers questions and provides information of a routine nature based on knowledge of programs and operations. Maintains supervisor’s calendar, prepares and types documents and correspondence. The school secretary interacts with students and parents to resolve problems. Performs duties unique to school environment including; personnel and payroll coordination, computer area security, key control, and records management. Responsible for maintaining an accurate Substitute teacher roster. May also assist in education program implementation involving coordinating program requirements and administrative details.

GS-05 position:
In order to qualify for this position, you need one year of specialized experience at the GS-04 level. Examples of specialized experience include: clerical and administrative duties in support of an organization; using multiple automated programs and software such as databases, spreadsheets, and graphics in support of the clerical and administrative work; answering a multiple telephone system; preparing routine correspondence; scheduling meetings and managing an organizations or office calendar.

OR EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION of four years above high school. One year of full time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial or technical school.

GS-06 position:
In order to qualify for this position, you need one year of specialized experience at the GS-05 level. Examples of specialized experience include: controlling and reading all incoming correspondence, screening items to be handled personally, and forwarding the remainder for action; receiving requests for information, advising when the information can be furnished, and providing authorized information from files and records or following up with others to see that non-routine information is provided; arranging for meetings or conferences including reserving meeting room and notifying participants; and requisitioning supplies, equipment and services for the office staff.

There is no substitution of education for experience at the GS-06 grade level.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

All candidates must be U.S. Citizens and reside within the local commuting area where the position is located.  Local commuting area is defined as the geographic area surrounding a work site that encompasses the localities where people live and reasonably can be expected to travel back and forth daily to work based on the generally held expectations of the local community. (

Work schedules may be part-time, full-time or school year seasonal. Some positions are part-time with seasonal work schedules. School year seasonal work schedules include periods in a non-pay/non-duty status during the holiday, spring and summer recess periods.

A qualified typist is required for this position (40wpm).

Status candidates must meet time-in-grade requirements.
