Works under the supervision of the CYS Coordinator or Program Operations Specialist.

Serves as the CYS Health Specialist with responsibility for the implementation of health support services and special needs issues in all CYS (Child Development Centers, Family Child Care Homes, School Age Services, Middle School and Teen, Sports and Fitness and Liaison, Education and Outreach Services) programs. Monitors the performance of staff  and providers in the health and well being of children and youth IAW DoD. Army and local policies and standards as they relate to assigned functions. Follows risk management procedures.

 

Serves as a member on the Installation Child and Youth Evaluation Team and assists in maintaining DoD certification. Conducts routine inspections of CYS programs in assigned areas. Responds to and corrects deficiencies surfaced in unannounced ICYET and RCYET inspections.

 

Coordinates with the designated CYS Health Consultant/CYS trainers to provide training for staff, providers and volunteers in designated health/special needs related training. Conducts observation of staff, providers and volunteers. Provides technical expertise in the operation of mildly ill FCC homes.

 

Works cooperatively with appropriate CYS program manager in the implementation of health and fitness programs. Provides parental support services and education and participates in parent conferences.

 

Serves as the CYS Health representative to the Special Needs Resource Team. Coordinates with the EFMP Program Manager to ensure all available resources are explored. Monitors progress of special needs children/youth placed in CYS settings.

Ensures child health records are kept up to date. Monitors staff/provider health requirement. Helps Food Service Specialist coordinate infant feeding plans and special diets as required.

 

Serves as the primary liaison between CYS and the installation medical authority. May serve on an Army/Region-wide Health steering committee. Assists in assessment of non-CYS facilities to determine suitability for alternative CYS options such as STACC sites and relocations caused by activation of the MAC plan.

 

Maintains and analyzes data of instances of illness to determine trends and possible training needs. Maintains and monitors health supplies and first aide supplies. May be required to provide limited direct patient care. Includes other job related duties as assigned.

Education: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

Registration: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Specialized Experience:

In addition to meeting the basic requirements, applicants must have:

1. At least twelve (12) months professional nursing experience in pediatric care working with special needs children/youth.

2. The ability to plan and organize work, analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data and recognize solutions.

3.  The ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English.


Conditions of employment:

1. A one-year probationary period may be required.

2. Meet all qualification/eligibility requirements.

3. All required background checks of AR 215-3 and the Crime Control Act must be successfully completed and maintained, including Child and Youth National Agency Check with Inquiries (CNACI). A health assessment is required (paid by the employer). Satisfactory performance, successful completion of training requirements and demonstrated on the job competency is required. Travel to on and off post locations is required.

 

4. Immunizations are required as a condition of employment for the health and safety of those in the facility as determined by a medical authority. Already immune individuals (based on documented receipt of vaccine series or physician diagnosed illness), or those subject to religious exemption, or medical contraindication are exempt from this requirement.

NOTE: Employment will be denied or terminated if your background checks reveal any of the following: Conviction for a sexual offense, a drug felony – or any drug related offense, a violent crime, or a criminal offense involving a child or children.
