The position is that of a Nurse Practitioner.  As a Licensed Independent Provider, the position requires an expert clinician with advanced educational preparation, expanded knowledge, and strong clinical expertise in Family Medicine, Women’s Health, Adult Health, Occupational Medicine, Pediatrics, or Emergency Medicine.  The Nurse Practitioner is assigned to the Directorate for Branch Clinics, Naval Medical Center San Diego, California.  The purpose of the role is to provide a full range of primary care to TRICARE Prime beneficiaries enrolled to Branch Clinic.

·         Serve as the Primary Care Manager for a full panel of patients.

·         Develop and implements therapeutic plans and clinical practice (verbal and written) to improve patient health.

·         Provide pediatric care to include nutrition, medications, immunizations, growth and development, and psychosocial development.

·         Develop, implement, and evaluate new programs, methods, criteria, and/or policies pertaining to the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP).

·         Consultant to and healthcare resource for patients, families, nurses, and other staff members. 

·         Functions as administrative expert for training programs in area of specialization.

In order to qualify for this Nurse Practitioner, GS-0610-12 position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered.  Your resume is the key means we have for evaluating your skills, knowledge, and abilities, as they relate to this position. Therefore, we encourage you to be clear and specific when describing your experience.


Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:


·         Experience performing a variety of duties involving patients with developmental disabilities, chronic pediatric medical conditions and adult acute and chronic diseases. 

·         Experience performing a broad range of activities including assessing, planning, evaluating, and modifying the treatment of patients and families.

·         Experience in early detection, diagnosis, and treatment protocols.

·         Experience utilizing personal computers, internet, Clinicomp and Composite Health Care System (CHCS) computer systems for data retrieval, clinical documentation, and research.



BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:  A degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time you completed the program.



BASIC CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT:  Possess current, active, and unrestricted licensure as a professional registered nurse in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.


BUSINESS NECESSITY:  Have an active, current National certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) by the American Nurses Association.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.  A security clearance is a requirement of this position. You must have current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS).  


Ability to meet all credentialing requirements of Naval Medical Center San Diego.


 Physical examination is required.


Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test is required.  A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the applicant fails to report to the scheduled drug test appointment.  Incumbents of drug testing designated positions will be subject to random testing.  Drug test results will be provided to the employing activity/command.
