This position is being announced under FEMA's CORE Program (Cadre of On-call Response/Recovery employees).  These positions are authorized under P.L. 93-288 to perform temporary disaster work and are funded from the Disaster Relief Fund.  Appointments are excepted service, temporary appointments.  This is a 2 year temporary appointment in the Excepted Service. 

EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT:  For all nonbargaining unit positions, the following applies:  Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites.  All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.

Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position.

This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Information Technology Branch, Region VIII in Denver CO.  The incumbent will provide day-to-day planning, delivery, and follow up of IT operations in support of IT customers and services in the Denver Area.  The primary purpose of the position is to perform customer support and configuration management..

 

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Responsible of assisting in the planning, developing, coordinating, installing, implementing, maintaining and management of ITSD systems supporting both the Region VIII office and remote operating locations.
  • Assists in evaluating regional and remote operating locations ITSD systems to determine whether existing programs can be enhanced, if they are efficient and effective in providing management of data, and make recommendations for changes.
  • Provides training and support to personnel in the use of ITSD systems while maintaining records of work in Help Desk tracking software and participates in all task forces that develop training materials.
  • Ensures integrity and security of data resources, including both system and applications software and program data.
  • Assists in the management and coordinates the development of ADP standards for Region Wide application.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

You qualify for this position at the GS-12 level if you possess one of the following: One full year of specialized experience. Specialized experience is described as experience working in IT at the local, state or federal level.  Such experience must include installing, configuring and making operational a wide range of software to resolve technical problems due to incompatibilities with existing Agency equipment and software.

1.  Skilling in applying information systems security principles, concepts, and methods, the infrastructure protection environment, and interrelations of multiple IT disciplines.

2.  Experience in the installations, maintenance, and administration of Microsoft based hardware and software in an Active Directory network.

3.  Skill in resolving integration issues related to the implementation of new systems within the existing infrastructure.
