Join dedicated outpatient clinical staff whose joint efforts with individuals, families, and communities prevent and treat illness. The Indian Health Service in the Pacific Northwest provides healthcare to American Indians and Alaska Natives living in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho.

    • Functions as a clinical consultant/educator to other clinic departments in collaboration with the Chief of Podiatry Services and Director of Amputation Prevention.
    • Provides direct specialty lower extremity preventative and therapeutic specialized practice nursing care and screening and diagnostic assessments.
    • Case manages identified patients according to acceptable Diabetic Foot Classification System determining and providing appropriate interval screening assessments and lower extremity care to high risk patients.
    • Performs standard and advanced wound healing procedures and technologies to patients with difficult wounds and acts as a liaison and consultant to clinicians in the ambulatory care clinic for patients with wound healing problems.

HOW DO I QUALIFY FOR THE JOB?

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

REGISTRATION: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

In addition to the Basic Requirements listed above, you must also meet the following minimum requirements for the grade level you wish to be considered GS-09: 1 (one) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level OR you may substitute education in lieu of experience.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. For example, specialized experience in identifying disease entities in order to recognize complications and therapeutic interventions required; in pharmaceuticals in order to recognize there desired effects, side effects and complications of their use; recognize adverse signs and symptoms which are not always apparent and to react promptly in emergency situations including the implementation of life saving procedures.

EDUCATION in LIEU of EXPERIENCE

2 (two) full years of progressively higher level graduate education or a master's degree. Graduate-level education must have been in nursing with a concentration in a field of nursing (e.g., teaching, a clinical specialty, research, administration, etc.) or in a closely related non-nursing field directly applicable to the requirements of the position to be filled.

COMBINING EDUCATION WITH EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements for this position.

ADDITIONAL TRAINING REQUIREMENT.

The following factor has been determined to be essential for the position. Applicants must show possession of this training. 

Do you possess graduate level or equivalent training in foot care, wound care and focused management of chronic medical conditions that include high risk lower extremity complications such as diabetes or rheumatic disease? If you are responding yes, please submit evidence such as a copy of training certificate or college transcript that shows this type of training.

WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT:

First notification : Once the online questionnaire and resume are received, you will receive an acknowledgement email that your submission was successfully received. Receipt of this email does not confirm receipt of the other required document(s): copy of your license or completed OF-306 Addendum form.
