WYOMING ARMY NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Wyoming Army National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Wyoming Army National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Wyoming Army National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

This position is located in Joint Force Headquarters—State, USPFO, Supply and Services, Ammunition Supply Point (ASP).  The primary purpose of this position is to perform the handling, examining, and identifying of ammunition and explosives to detect defects, serviceability, deterioration, compliance, etc.  Secondary duties involve the receipt, storage, packing, issue, and transfer of ammunition and explosive items.  Work requires a primary knowledge of handling, examining, and identifying ammunition and explosives; and a secondary knowledge of the receipt, storage, packing, issue, and transfer of ammunition and explosive items. 




(1) Handles, identifies, and examines ammunition and explosives items, components, storage areas, and transportation conveyances to detect defects, serviceability, and deterioration; and assures compliance with directions and regulations.  Uses a variety of test gauges and equipment, such as, multi-meters, galvanometers, ring gauges, pull a part test tables, etc.


(2) Handles, identifies and examines stored ammunition and explosives to determine true condition, deterioration trends, and non-standard and hazardous methods of storage.  Assures that associated reports are completed.  Visually examines and tests lightening protection systems by performing electrical tests and records findings to assure proper documentation.  Properly condition codes ammunition and completes appropriate documentation of ammunition transfer records, condition reports, etc.


(3) Handles, identifies, and examines the live turn-in of ammunition to determine the condition and packaging of ammunition. Takes appropriate action to return ammunition to a serviceable condition and properly packages unserviceable ammunition for storage.  Determines causes of ammunition un-serviceability and takes appropriate action when ammunition deterioration is found to be other than “fair wear and tear”. 


(4) Performs damage-in-transit, periodic, receipt, and visual examination of ammunition received by ASP to determine the true condition.  Assigns condition codes.   Completes the proper and required documentation of ammunition transfer records, surveillance records, ammunition condition reports, quality deficiency reports, magazine data cards and numerous other documentation and/or reports. 


(5) Visually examines vehicles prior to loading to determine if the vehicle is suitable for transportation of hazardous materials and ensure that the correct ammunition has been issued and is properly packaged, marked and labeled, and in compliance with directives and regulations.  Assures the load is compatible and properly blocked and braced for transportation and that all hazardous material manifests, fire fighting instructions, vehicle inspection reports, and issue documentation has been properly prepared.  Briefs ammunition drivers on proper route plans, fire fighting procedures and safety concerns prior to release of the vehicle.


(6) Advises using units on the proper procedures for completion of documentation for issue and turn-in of ammunition and residue.  This requires an in-depth knowledge of ammunition administrative procedures as outlined in Department of the Army (DA) regulations, pamphlets, and other applicable regulations.


(7) Operates forklifts, stake bed trucks, pallet jacks, and various hand tools, as needed.

This job family includes occupations involved in the manufacturing, assembling, disassembling, renovating, loading, deactivating, modifying, destroying, testing, handling, placing, and discharging of ammunition, propellants, chemicals and toxic materials, and other conventional and special munitions and explosives. Work involves detection, identification, evaluation, rendering safe recovery, and disposal of explosive items which are hazardous to operations, facilities, or personnel.



Must possess experience or training which demonstrates the ability to use and maintain tools and equipment associated with the type of work to be done, and to understand and follow oral and written instructions; and experience which demonstrates the knowledge of and the ability to apply safety standards.



WG-06: Must possess at least 9 months experience or training in receiving, packaging, and preparation for shipment; experience in compiling reports, overall warehouse planning, documentation requirements, and accepted warehousing methods, procedures and techniques; experience in setting up and rotating storage locations considering factors such as life expectancy, available space, product turnover, etc.; experience performing inventory and inspections to determine serviceability of stocked items; and experience in interpreting and applying written instructions, reference materials, publications, and manuals.


WG-07: Must possess at least 12 months experience or training handling and the ability to learn how to destroy explosives and toxic materials; follow safety procedures in the handling of ammunition, explosives and toxic materials; and experience which demonstrates the ability to use radial monitoring instruments, photographs, chemical analyses and x-ray equipment.


NOTE: Specialized experience will be used to determine qualifications for the announced position. Applicants must provide begin and end dates (MM/YY - MM/YY) with description of your specialized experience.


MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Selected candidates will be required to be in a compatible military grade and assignment prior to the effective date of placement.


Enlisted applicant’s military grade cannot exceed the maximum military grade authorized. Over-grade applicant must provide a written statement of understanding with application, willingness to be administratively reduced in grade (state specific grade) if selected for this position.

4. Non-Prior Service (NPS) Applicants.

Applicant is eligible for enlistment if applicant is at least 17 years of age and has not passed their 42nd birthday. Applicants who are 17 years of age (have not reached their 18th birthday) require parental/guardian consent for enlistment through completion of appropriate sections of DD Form 1966 (Record of Military Processing-Armed Forces of the United States).


5. Prior Service (PS) Applicants.

a. An applicant is eligible for enlistment if applicant’s age, when subtracting prior honorable active Service completed in any military Service, is not more than 42 and the applicant can qualify for regular retirement with 20 or more years of active Federal Service by age 62.


b. Applicant is eligible for enlistment in the Army National Guard if they are not less than 18 years of age and can qualify for retired pay by age 60 for Army National Guard.


c. An applicant is exempt from age criteria outline above and therefore is eligible for enlistment if they can qualify for retirement by age 62, does not have 20 or more years of active Service, and is a former member of Service who was awarded the Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, Navy Cross, or Silver Star Medal.
