This vacancy is for a Supervisory Economist position in the Goods & Distributive Services Branch, Industry Sector Division, located at the U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Economic Analysis in Washington, DC.
The Goods & Distributive Services Branch is responsible for the production and analysis of the following statistics in BEA’s Industry Economic Accounts: Manufacturing, Construction, Mining, Agriculture, Utilities, Wholesale and Retail. The incumbent will serve as branch chief with oversight of the production of all the above statistics for the U.S. input-output accounts and the GDP-by-Industry accounts. The incumbent will apply knowledge or economic and statistical concepts, as well as, analytical, problem-solving and research skills to successfully lead the branch.

This is a supervisory position. If not already completed, the selectee will need to serve a one-year supervisory probationary period.

The individual selected for this position will:
*Major Duty 1: Serve as branch chief, providing oversight of the production of the Goods and Distributive Services statistics for BEA’s Industry Accounts;
*Major Duty 2: Plan, direct and review the work of subordinate staff members;
*Major Duty 3: Leads and/or conducts research, including developing improved methodologies to address limitations in estimation procedures and gaps in data coverage;
*Major Duty 4: Develop and maintain estimation programs; interpret and analyze statistics from a variety of sources, both internal and external to BEA;
*Major Duty 5: Provide clear and concise written and oral communications;
*Major Duty 6: Assist with technical issues related to the production of economic statistics; and perform individual research.
