JOB SUMMARY:

Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission.  They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations.  The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.

About the Position:
Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas.  RRAD is near the corners of 4 states - Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas.  The depot's enormous maintenance mission includes the repair, rebuild, overhaul and conversion of tactical wheeled vehicles.  For more information on Red River Army Depot, go to the following web site:  www.redriver.army.mil.

• Operate heavy equipment, such as crawler tractors, wheel tractors, truck tractors and cranes for the purpose of moving and relocating heavy items such as combat vehicles.

• Perform crane, towing and swamping operations.

• Move equipment for purpose of re-warehousing, transfer between storage and rebuild areas with close tolerance; and transfer from docks when receiving, including towing of vehicles from rail cars.

• Operate tanks over various types of terrain including gravel, sand, hills, ditches, wooded and paved areas.

• Operate truck-mounted, engine driven crane utilizing slings and load hook attachments.

• Determine proper towing connections.

Screen Out Element: Ability to perform the work of a Mobile Equipment Operator, WG-5701-09, without more than normal supervision:  Operate one or more pieces of heavy equipment such as crawler tractors, wheel tractors, truck tractors or cranes for the purpose of moving and relocating heavy items weighing equivalent to that of combat vehicles; inspect towed vehicles prior to moving; tow equipment weighing up to and including that equivalent to heavy combat vehicles; perform operator maintenance to vehicles operated; determine proper towing connection.  Applicants must meet this screen-out element to be considered further.

Physical effort:
Must exercise good judgment, have good eyesight, depth perception and reaction time to successfully handle equipment with safety.  Tow bars weighing up to 256 pounds are lifted with assistance of chain hoist; tow bars weighing up to 187 pounds are lifted by swamper and driver.  Must be physically agile in climbing in and out of vehicles.  Required to wear safety shoes.

 

Working Conditions:
Works inside and outside, subject to weather extremes, excessive dust and exhaust fumes.  Subject to acid burns from contaminated equipment in cleaning operations areas. 


Hazards:  Subject to traffic hazards and hazards of falls when climbing in and out of vehicles, working near moving vehicles when making connections, snapping cables, and danger of vehicles running off ramps, flat cars and commerical floats.

Temporary Appointment NTE 4 Months may be extended in increments for up to two years.  This position CANNOT be converted to permanent. 

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:
