Everyday our CIS Assistant responds to written and oral inquiries from the public, other organizations, governmental agencies, Congressional offices and provides information and assistance on applications to applicants/ petitioners and/or their legal representatives.

Duties

The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence, and limited complexity.

 

As a CIS Assistant OA, your duties will include the following:

  • Responding to written and oral inquiries from the public, other organizations, governmental agencies, Congressional offices; providing information and assistance on applications to applicants/ petitioners and/or their legal representatives in response to telephone, walk-in, congressional or other written inquiries on all aspects of immigration and nationality law as it relates to their specific area of responsibility.
  • Performing case file analysis and evaluation of cases where adjudication or resolution has been delayed and/or problems encountered.
  • Determining basic eligibility for benefits and privileges under the final approval of a senior employee or supervisor.
  • Performing appropriate record keeping and reporting tasks and capturing essential statistical data for monthly reports and assists in the preparation of those reports.
  • Provides office automation advice, guidance, and assistance to staff.
