This position is being filled through the Pathways, Recent Graduate Program and provides an opportunity for recent graduates to be placed in a 1-year career training and development program. 

Training and Development program offers the following:

- Orientation program for Recent Graduates hired for the program.
- Mentorship throughout the program.
- Individual Development Plan to create and track Recent Graduates' career planning, professional development, and training activities.
- At least 40 hours of formal, interactive training each year of the program.
- Positions may offer opportunity for career advancement.
- A Recent Graduate appointment may initially be made for a longer period due to a more structured training program requirement.
- A Participant Agreement is required to be signed with the Recent Graduate that sets forth the expectations for the Program.

Reclamation is seeking a professional looking for an opportunity to capitalize on his/her expertise in electrical engineering. Responsibilities include providing research and development, engineering, technical, and other specialized consulting and field services concerned with water and power projects, structures, and facilities. Would you enjoy working on power plants, motors and generators at Reclamation?

Recent Graduates may be converted to a permanent position after program completion. To be eligible for conversion, Recent Graduates must have:

- Successfully completed at least 1-year of continuous service in addition to all requirements of the Program.

-Performs duties on electrical power projects and related research in the areas of power apparatus evaluation, diagnostics, field testing, research, and operation and maintenance associated with large motors and generators, power plant and switchyard equipment, and associated control systems.

-Work under the technical supervision of team leaders or more experienced researchers to plan, construct, tests, analyzes, and reports on prototype and feasibility related research efforts.

-Prepares test equipment, procedures, and schedules, for performance of laboratory and field testing.

Education Requirements:

Applicants may qualify on the basis of education as follows:

GS-5- Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown in the education section.

GS-7- Superior Academic Achievement or one year progressively higher level education leading to a master's degree or master's equivalent graduate degree. The degree must be in the appropriate field of engineering and must directly relate to the work of the position.

GS-9- 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. The degree must be in the appropriate field of engineering and must directly relate to the work of the position.

The position requires proof of a driver's license at time of selection.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must first meet the Basic Education Qualification Requirements listed below:

A. Degree: Professional Engineering degree. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience - college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:

Professional registration--Current registration as a professional engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration. For example, an applicant who attains registration through a State Board's eminence provision as a manufacturing engineer typically would be rated eligible only for manufacturing engineering positions.

Specified academic courses--Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum as described in paragraph A.

Related curriculum--Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions. (The above examples of related curricula are not all-inclusive.)

**This position has a mandatory education requirement; you must furnish a copy of your transcript of college work completed (unofficial copy is acceptable). Transcripts must include the name of the college or university and date the degree was conferred. Non-submission will result in you being rated not qualified for the position.

Foreign Education: To receive credit for education completed outside the United States, applicants must show proof that the education has been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and such education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.

You must meet all qualification requirements, including Recent Graduates Program restrictions by the closing date of this announcement. 

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Category rating and selection procedures will be used for evaluating this position.  If you meet the basic qualification requirements, your on-line responses to the vacancy assessment questionnaire will be used to determine the quality and extent of your experience, education, training, etc., for placement in one of the following categories:  1)  Best Qualified and 2) Well Qualified.  Qualified candidates will be assigned a numerical score on a scale of 70-100 and Veterans with preference will be placed at the top of their respective category.  The assessment questionnaire will take you approximately 20 minutes to complete

WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT:
