JOB SUMMARY:

This is an Air Reserve Technician Enlisted position.

Air Reserve Technicians are part of the regular civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service.  In addition, ARTs are required to maintain active membership in an Air Force Reserve unit so long as they occupy Air Reserve Technician positions. As members of reserve units, ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month. In addition, they are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Reserve units and members are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency.

The primary purpose of this Air Reserve Technician (ART) Enlisted position is to manage the Air Force survival, evasion, resistance, and escape (SERE) training program for assigned unit (Operation Squadron or Flight).  Incumbent of this position will perform the following duties:

 

  • Plan, organize, direct, schedule and conduct SERE training activities.
  • Prepare and administer tests to determine aircrew SERE needs and provide SERE briefings to deployable personnel as required.
  • Develop local guidance and directives, as required, to include information updates, instructions, supplements and policies.
  • Perform work supporting PR exercise planning and execution and functions as an exercise observer and controller.
  • Evaluate SERE readiness and assists with SERE training when participating on inspection and staff assistance visit (SAV) teams chartered to assess war/mobility planning and readiness.
  • Serve as the local SERE technical authority in meetings and on committees tasked to review or develop real-world or exercise scenario objectives and plans.
  • Conduct and evaluate SERE training inclusive of Code of Conduct (CoCT) training and Code of Conduct continuation training (CoCCT).
  • Ensure that SERE activities are properly coordinated and that all support documentation is updated and available.

You must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level or equivalent qualifying pay band or other pay systems in the Federal Government that has given you the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of the position. Typically we would find this work experience within a military Operations Support Squadron or Flight training environment managing the Air Force survival, evasion, resistance, and escape (SERE) training program.  (To be creditable, specialized experience must meet the above quality level requirements).

Substitution of Education:  Master's Degree or equivalent graduate degree or two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or OR  LL.B or J.D., in a relevant field of study (e.g., Education). This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Training Specialist and is related to the duties of this position. If you are qualifying based on education, an official copy of your college transcript to is required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

Position may or will require incumbent to: (1) Fly in military and/or commercial aircraft in the performance of temporary duty (TDY) assignments. (2) Incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties: however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. (3) Must be able to obtain and maintain a  security clearance as designated for this position. (4) This is a drug testing designated position and incumbent is subject to random drug testing. (5) "This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position." (6) May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty.

(5) Ability to gather and analyze a variety of program information, make sound judgments concerning program progress, and provide effective advice and technical guidance. WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT:
